Job description
USNH Employees should apply within Workday through the Jobs Hub app
The College of Life Sciences and Agriculture (COLSA) at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) invites applications for a Veterinary Pathologist (Anatomic) within the New Hampshire Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (NHVDL). This full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor position is a three-year, renewable term of appointment. The NHVDL is a collaborative enterprise supported by UNH, the NH Agricultural Experiment Station, and the NH Department of Agriculture, Markets & Food, and plays a critical role in animal health diagnostics, disease surveillance, and public health across the region. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team providing high-quality diagnostic services to veterinarians, producers, researchers, and state and federal partners.
The Veterinary Pathologist will contribute primarily to diagnostic services (approximately 75%), including necropsy, surgical biopsy, and cytology, while also supporting disease surveillance and client consultation. The remaining effort (approximately 25%) will focus on teaching, mentoring, and advising undergraduate students within the Department of Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences, with opportunities to engage in collaborative research, outreach, and development of specialized diagnostic services (e.g., livestock, wildlife, and aquatic species). The position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to UNH's teaching, research, and service mission in a collegial and interdisciplinary environment committed to inclusive excellence.
Join a collaborative team of board-certified veterinary pathologists at the NHVDL, where you'll enjoy an exceptionally diverse and professionally rewarding diagnostic caseload. The pathology service evaluates more than 6,000 surgical biopsy and cytology cases, approximately 450 full necropsy examinations, and 400 mail-in necropsy cases annually across domestic animals, livestock, poultry, exotic species, wildlife, and aquatic animals. This breadth of submissions provides opportunities to develop specialty interests in areas such as wildlife, aquatic, and production animal pathology while contributing to disease surveillance, public health, and One Health initiatives. The pathology team is supported by a state-of-the-art histology section that produces more than 50,000 histology slides annually for both in-house diagnostic services and external pathology clients.
