The Opportunity

Bridge the Field and the Office. Your Defined Pathway from Project Engineer to Executive Project Manager.

Cissell Mueller Construction, Inc. is seeking a high-performing, analytical Assistant Project Manager (APM) to anchor our project management division. This role represents the critical acceleration bridge in our structured project leadership pipeline, explicitly designed to transition experienced Project Engineers (PEs) into masterful APMs, with a clear, milestone-driven trajectory toward becoming fully autonomous Project Managers (PMs).

This position is engineered exclusively for an ambitious professional who wants to move beyond routine coordination and take real operational ownership over submittals, RFIs, and complex scheduling architectures. At Cissell Mueller, we don't believe in hands-off onboarding; you will be paired directly with our senior executive team and seasoned PMs through a structured mentorship program. You will step into a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment where you will receive daily technical training, contract logic instruction, and pre-construction visibility. We build leaders from within. If you are a former Project Engineer ready to master project financial structures, command client meetings, and aggressively scale your career into a full PM position, we provide the ultimate training platform to elevate your professional legacy.

The Structured Growth Track

At Cissell Mueller, your career trajectory is mapped out from day one. This position serves as the vital midpoint of your executive development:

The Foundation (PE): You mastered document control, initial submittals, and field data capturing.

The Bridge (APM - Your Role): Under direct senior mentorship, you will learn comprehensive financial buyout strategies, master critical path modeling, and run client-facing alignment meetings.

The Destination (PM): Upon completing your milestone training, you will graduate to take full profit-and-loss (P&L) ownership, commanding your own multi-million dollar commercial project portfolios.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will manage critical pre-construction and active project administration workflows while actively shadowing senior leaders to absorb advanced operational strategies:

  • Subcontract Procurement & Buyout: Coordinate comprehensive project buyout phases, verify vendor coverage, and draft detailed subcontracts under PM guidance to learn exact risk allocation.
  • Information Architecture Management: Command the submission, engineering review, and tracking of critical submittals with Architects and Engineers to prevent delivery and installation delays.
  • Fiscal Budget Accountability: Monitor the real-time financial health of active construction contracts, processing change orders and auditing rental equipment budgets to protect project margins.
  • Schedule Optimization: Update, analyze, and maintain master project schedules utilizing Microsoft Project to ensure on-time delivery and balanced resource allocation.
  • RFI Engineering & Processing: Formulate and track Request for Information (RFI) logs by auditing contract documents, architectural plans, and structural specifications for feasibility and quality.
  • Field Safety Enforcement: Execute routine, technical jobsite inspections alongside superintendents, reviewing site conditions to enforce strict compliance with corporate safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Data Transparency Management: Direct the fluid, digital distribution of project documentation, managing comprehensive electronic and physical files to ensure absolute project clarity.

What You Need to Succeed (Qualifications)

  • Education & Tenure: A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of trade education and field experience.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 2 years of verified experience operating as a Project Engineer, Assistant Project Manager, or in a similar commercial construction management capacity.
  • Blueprint Literacy: High-level proficiency in reading, interpreting, and cross-referencing detailed architectural plans, structural engineering drawings, and civil site specifications.
  • Technology Infrastructure: Advanced capability navigating Bluebeam, Microsoft Project, and the complete Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Mobility & Logistics: Complete willingness and flexibility to travel up to 75% to various regional and national project assignments as dictated by construction schedules.

Preferred Technical Assets:

  • A clear desire to absorb training and a natural ambition to advance into a full Project Manager role.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead, organize, and motivate diverse subcontractor crews and field teams.
  • Advanced functional knowledge of heavy equipment coordination and specialized civil/commercial building means and methods.
  • Prior experience directly representing a General Contractor in high-stakes pre-construction negotiations and strategic client sessions.

Compensation & Premium Benefits

We reward administrative precision, field dedication, and project leadership with a robust total rewards framework tailored to your professional evolution:

  • Competitive Base Pay: $70,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year customized directly to your professional construction background.
  • Performance Bonuses: Direct eligibility for structured corporate bonuses driven by project execution, milestone completion, and company metrics.
  • Fleet Support Allowances: A dedicated monthly gas card and/or a structured corporate truck allowance, coupled with a monthly phone allocation.
  • Executive Mentorship & Training: 1-on-1 mentorship pairing with corporate executives, weekly project review workshops, and clear pathway tracking toward your PM promotion.
  • Health & Security Coverages: Comprehensive health insurance packaging alongside company-paid life insurance.
  • Future Wealth Generation: A corporate 401(k) retirement savings plan featuring a guaranteed 3% company matching contribution.
  • Work-Life Balance Allocations: Full eligibility for earned Paid Time Off (PTO), dedicated personal sick days, and paid company holidays.
  • Continuous Professional Development: Company-provided OSHA 30 training certifications and ongoing access to professional development programs.
