𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲
A fast-scaling advanced-materials manufacturer is building out new production capacity, and this is the person who makes it real. You will drive ground-up factory construction, expansion, and startup at a brand-new Bay Area site, stepping into a multi-site capital program with serious investment behind it. This is a hands-on "now" job at the pilot-to-volume inflection point: you direct the contractors, engineers, and vendors who turn a set of drawings into a commissioned, qualified, producing plant. High visibility, high pace, and real ownership of the result.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂'𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝘄𝗻
• End-to-end scoping, planning, and execution of capital factory projects, from breaking ground through permitting, equipment install, and startup to full production
• Accountability for schedule, scope, and budget on projects ranging from seven figures into the multi-millions, with leadership-level progress reporting
• Cost, time, and resource planning across general contractors, subcontractors, external engineering partners, and internal cross-functional teams
• Risk assessment and countermeasures defined well ahead of impact, plus rigorous design reviews for first-time-right execution
• Regulatory compliance across hazardous-materials handling, air-quality and environmental permitting, construction and building permits, fire code, and electrical standards
• Leading cross-functional project meetings and mentoring junior project managers as the function scales
𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲
• A detail-obsessed, type-A driver who gets in and makes things happen, not an advisor or a consultant
• Someone who has actually built and started up a plant or industrial facility, and knows the difference between managing a project on paper and getting concrete poured and equipment running
• Comfortable holding contractors and stakeholders accountable without direct authority over them (this is a matrixed role with no direct reports)
• Calm under high pressure and tight timelines, and energized by a brand-new site that is still being stood up
• Not for you if you want a mature plant with every process already dialed in, or you would rather advise than own the build
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴
• 8+ years managing capital projects, with hands-on factory and plant construction and startup experience
• Background in chemical, advanced-materials, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, or other regulated, hazardous-process manufacturing (chemical or process-plant experience is ideal; strong adjacent backgrounds are welcome)
• Working knowledge of permitting and regulatory compliance for industrial facilities: hazardous materials, air quality, fire and authority-having-jurisdiction, and building and construction
• Fluency with standard project-management tools and methods (for example Primavera P6, Microsoft Project); PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is a plus
• BS in an engineering or related technical discipline
• Based in, or able to be onsite daily in, the Fremont, CA / Bay Area; this is a fully onsite role
• Authorized to work in the US without current or future visa sponsorship
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀
• Full-time, permanent, onsite in Fremont, CA
• Travel up to about 20%, primarily domestic
• Competitive base salary plus a performance bonus, with strong benefits (medical, dental, and vision; 401(k) with company match; employee stock purchase plan; generous PTO)
