Now Hiring - Cable Technicians

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA

Project: QTS Data Center

Duration: 3-Year Project

*Job Overview*
  • We are seeking Cable Technicians to support the construction and expansion of the QTS Data Center campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a large-scale, multi-year project with consistent work, overtime opportunities, and career growth within the telecommunications and data center industry.
  • The Cable Technician will be responsible for installing, routing, securing, dressing, and testing low-voltage copper and fiber optic cabling within a fast-paced data center environment. Candidates should be safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor construction settings.
*Responsibilities*
  • Install, route, secure, and dress copper and fiber optic cabling throughout the data center campus.
  • Pull cable through conduit, cable trays, ladder racks, innerduct, and underground pathway systems.
  • Install cable support systems including J-hooks, ladder racks, and cable trays.
  • Terminate and test copper and fiber cabling as required.
  • Read and interpret cable schedules, construction drawings, blueprints, and work orders.
  • Label, document, and maintain accurate records of cabling installations.
  • Perform cable continuity and basic testing procedures.
  • Ensure all installations meet customer specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and fellow technicians to complete project milestones on schedule.
*Required Skills*
  • Experience pulling, routing, and dressing structured cabling systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, floor plans, and cable maps.
  • Understanding of proper cable management practices, including bend radius and cable separation standards.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, ladders, and cable pulling equipment.
*Qualifications*
  • 1+ year of structured cabling, telecommunications, electrical, or low-voltage installation experience qualifies.
  • Any Data center, commercial construction, or telecommunications experience qualifies.
  • Any Experience with fiber optic and Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A cabling qualifies.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, and in confined spaces when required.
  • Valid driver's license and clean record for back grounds screening.
  • OSHA 10 certification is a plus but not required.

*Work Environment*
  • This position is based at the QTS Data Center campus in Cedar Rapids, IA. The work environment includes both indoor data hall construction and outdoor campus infrastructure work. Technicians will work around cable trays, ladder racks, network equipment, mechanical spaces, and underground pathway systems while adhering to strict safety and security standards.
  • The role requires standing, walking, climbing ladders, bending, lifting, and working in active construction environments throughout the day. Typical schedules average 50+ hours per week (1st shift - 7am to 5pm), with overtime opportunities available based on project needs.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $45.00/hr.
