Job description

Civil Engineer – Water Infrastructure Projects (Northeastern Illinois)
Full-Time | Permanent Role | Excellent Benefits

We are seeking experienced civil engineers to support major water infrastructure programs in northeastern Illinois. These programs involve construction program management and engineering oversight of multiple complex projects, offering leadership opportunities in fast-paced environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead civil design from concept through completion.
  • Prepare specifications, RFQs, bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
  • Review vendor drawings and coordinate across disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Support project planning: schedule, scope, budget, staffing, and construction.
  • Manage change orders and ensure design compliance.
  • Apply expert knowledge of civil engineering codes, practices, and procedures.
  • Develop innovative solutions for complex design challenges.
  • Conduct quality reviews of drawings, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Resolve field installation issues and lead inspections and testing.
  • Prepare and present technical reports and publications.
  • Build and maintain client and contractor relationships.
  • Lead proposal development and key pursuits.
  • Manage budgets, cost estimates, and project performance reporting.
  • Mentor junior engineers and ensure QA/QC and safety compliance.
  • Collaborate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited) and 7+ years of experience, or
  • Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering Technology with FE exam completion and 7+ years of experience, or
  • Master’s in Civil Engineering with 6+ years of experience.
  • EPC project experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in engineering software: AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, Revit, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD, and/or hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement analysis tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven leadership in large project design and team coordination.
  • Critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail, organization, and collaboration.
  • Ability to perform quality reviews and field inspections.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
