About the Job
MedStar Health and the MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute (MHVI) invite applications for a full-time Academic Cardiologist at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital (GUH), with a defined clinical focus on the cardiovascular care of patients in the solid organ transplant program. Faculty appointment through Georgetown University School of Medicine will be at the rank of Instructor, Assistant Professor, or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
About the Opportunity
This position is dedicated to providing cardiovascular care for patients with a particular focus on the care of patients who are being evaluated for, or have had a, non cardiac transplant. The solid Organ Transplant Program at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital is one of the largest and most respected programs in the region, encompassing kidney, liver, pancreas, and other solid organ transplants. The role will be based primarily at MedStar GUH with a secondary clinical presence at MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC). Time allocation will be 50% outpatient cardiology with a focus on patients undergoing a non cardiac transplant with the rest of the time being divided between CV imaging and inpatient cardiology care. The applicant with join an academic clinical cardiology group with research opportunities and participate in the education of fellows, residents, and medical students.
The successful candidate will:
  • Provide comprehensive cardiovascular care for solid organ transplant candidates and recipients, including pre-transplant evaluation, perioperative management, and long-term post-transplant cardiovascular follow-up.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary transplant team of hepatologists, nephrologists, transplant surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensivists, and other specialists.
  • Serve as a key liaison between the cardiology and transplant services at MedStar GUH, ensuring optimal outcomes in a complex, high-acuity patient population.
  • Maintain an outpatient clinic (~50% effort), participate in the inpatient cardiology consult service and interpret cardiac imaging studies including echocardiography.
  • Participate actively in the teaching and mentorship of medical students, internal medicine residents, and cardiovascular disease fellows.
  • Engage in clinical research and scholarly activity with access to institutional support through the MedStar Health Research Institute.

Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree with board certification or board eligibility in Cardiovascular Disease (ABIM)
  • Completion of ACGME-accredited Internal Medicine residency and Cardiovascular Disease fellowship
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Maryland
  • Board certified or eligible echocardiography.
  • Track record, or strong potential, in research or teaching
