Job description

Vaco is hiring a Systems Engineer for a direct hire opportunity in Dayton, OH.

We’re looking for a well-rounded Systems Engineer with strong experience in Windows server administration, VMware environments, and Active Directory, along with exposure to operational technology (OT) systems. This role will support both IT and OT infrastructure, ensuring systems are secure, reliable, and integrated effectively.

This role is 100% onsite in Dayton, OH and requires U.S. citizenship due to TWIC card eligibility

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and support Windows server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and file services
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and optimize configurations for stability and security
  • Administer VMware environments (vSphere, ESXi, vCenter), including virtual machine management and upgrades
  • Implement and maintain virtualization best practices for high availability and disaster recovery
  • Support and maintain OT systems such as ICS and SCADA, working closely with cross-functional teams
  • Manage Active Directory users, groups, Group Policy, and domain controllers
  • Ensure security standards and compliance across both IT and OT environments
  • Develop and maintain backup and disaster recovery processes
  • Document system configurations, processes, and troubleshooting steps
  • Provide guidance and support to team members on infrastructure and IT/OT integration

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong experience with Windows Server administration, VMware, and Active Directory
  • Exposure to OT environments (ICS, SCADA) is highly preferred
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals and security best practices
  • Relevant certifications such as MCSA or VMware VCP are a plus
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work both independently and within a team
