JOB TITLE:
Communications and Content Creator Intern - Institutional Advancement & UW Foundation
JOB PURPOSE:
The Communications and Content Intern supports the University of Wyoming Foundation's marketing and communications team while gaining hands-on experience in content creation, storytelling, social media, donor communications, and alumni engagement. The intern will work closely with the UW Foundation's content strategy staff to develop professional skills in writing, interviewing, digital communications, and strategic storytelling.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Editorial and Stewardship Communications - Assist with researching, writing, editing, and proofreading communications materials that support fundraising, donor stewardship, and institutional priorities. Contribute to storytelling efforts through interviews, content development, and support for print and digital publications while maintaining established editorial and brand standards.
  • Social Media and Digital Communications - Support social media and digital communications efforts through content creation, audience engagement, performance reporting, and multimedia storytelling. Assist with developing content that highlights donor impact, student success, faculty excellence, and institutional priorities while maintaining established brand and messaging standards.
  • UW Alumni Association Communications - Support alumni engagement and communications initiatives through content creation, promotional campaigns, and event-related communications. Assist with developing content that strengthens alumni connections and advances the mission of the UW Alumni Association.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Collaborate with UW Foundation staff, campus partners, and other stakeholders to support communications and engagement initiatives.
  • Participate in content planning meetings to gain experience in strategic communications and storytelling.
  • Assist with photography, videography, graphic design, and multimedia content creation.
  • Support the coordination of communication projects and campaigns while developing project management and organizational skills.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to communications, marketing, fundraising, alumni relations, and higher education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the University of Wyoming Foundation's mission and communications goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Must be a current University of Wyoming student.
  • Experience: Prior coursework, student employment, internships, volunteer work, or other experience in communications, marketing, content creation, customer service, or a professional office environment is preferred. Experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar design software is preferred.
  • Other Requirements: Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the Driving for University Business SAP.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Pursuing a degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, English, graphic design, or a related field.
  • Previous internship, student employment, volunteer, or leadership experience involving communications, marketing, content creation, or customer service.
  • Experience creating content for social media platforms, websites, newsletters, or other digital communications channels.
  • Experience using Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar graphic design and content creation software.
  • Demonstrated writing, editing, or storytelling experience through coursework, student organizations, publications, internships, or employment.
  • Experience with photography, videography, or multimedia content creation.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics, content planning, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Interest in higher education, nonprofit communications, fundraising, alumni relations, or donor engagement.
