What are Performance Driving Instructors?

Performance Driving Instructors are professionals who teach individuals how to drive vehicles at high speeds safely and efficiently, often on racetracks or closed courses. They work with students of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced drivers, focusing on techniques such as cornering, braking, acceleration, and vehicle control. Their role includes providing classroom instruction, in-car coaching, and feedback to help drivers improve their skills and confidence behind the wheel. Performance Driving Instructors may work at racing schools, track days, or special driving events. They prioritize safety while helping clients maximize their driving potential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Performance Driving Instructor, and why are they important?

To excel as a Performance Driving Instructor, you need advanced driving skills, in-depth automotive knowledge, and relevant certifications such as racing licenses or instructor credentials. Familiarity with data analysis tools, in-car telemetry systems, and track safety protocols is typically required. Strong communication, patience, and the ability to motivate and coach others are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure safe instruction, effective skill transfer, and a positive learning experience for students in high-performance environments.

What are some common challenges Performance Driving Instructors face when working with students of varying skill levels?

Performance Driving Instructors often work with students who have a wide range of experience, from complete beginners to advanced drivers. One common challenge is quickly assessing each student's abilities and adapting teaching methods to suit their learning style while maintaining safety standards. Instructors must also manage nerves and build confidence in novice drivers, while providing constructive feedback and advanced techniques to more experienced participants. Balancing group dynamics and ensuring every student receives personalized attention is essential for a successful and engaging learning environment.

Are you a FAN of families or is your family your biggest FAN? If the answer is yes, it is because you value and demonstrate talents like being:

  • Consistent; the one who is reliable in good times and bad,
  • Curious; the one who is an effective communicator, who listens and loves to learn,
  • Caring; the one who is empathetic and shows everyone compassion and respect, and the
  • Coach: the one who supports and encourages everyone to thrive and succeed.

These FANtastic superpowers are perfect to start or continue a successful career working at our family-oriented company which provides services to intellectually and developmentally challenged adults in their homes (and community) as they participate in daily routines and recreational activities.

We will be a big FAN of yours too if, at a minimum, you have:

  • A High School diploma or GED equivalent and be at least 18 years old,
  • Relevant experience working with Individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities, behavioral challenges, dual diagnoses, or forensic involvement,
  • A current driverโ€™s license and California automobile insurance coverage for driving your personal vehicle to and from various community locations either independently or with other team members, including Individuals, and
  • Ability to read, write and speak English. Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.

You will quickly become a FAN of our family too because in this house we provide:

  • Comprehensive Medical, Dental and Vision insurance plans and vacation pay. What is healthier than taking some time out to take care of you too?
  • A 401k plan with a 5% match and company-paid group life insurance. And if you choose, you can also elect additional voluntary Life Insurance, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, Long-term Disability, and Critical Care Coverage. You will have access to Bonus Programs; education reimbursement and we provide professional development and training. What is better than building your financial and professional net worth at the same place?
  • A robust Employee Assistance Program that includes financial, legal, mental health, and wellness services and programs. Employee Discounts (access to more family fun to include travel, sporting events, attractions such as theme parks, movie theaters, restaurants, and much more) to recognize and support your emotional well-being and maintain a healthy balance. After all, every family FAN needs to have fun!

But hereโ€™s a known family secret, being part of one, does take effort โ€“ itโ€™s all about what you do (your responsibilities/contributions) and how you do it (your behaviors/superpowers) -- so here are

some of the things you can expect to experience as you build your FAN club in this house.

There will be challenges:

  • Just like families, disabilities come in different types. You will see many of them along with the mental health challenges in the Individuals (aka the Program participants) that we serve. You will also learn about the different agencies and resources we work with to help you provide support directly, or indirectly, to the Individuals.

There will be chores:

  • You will work with Individuals and their โ€œcircle of supportโ€ (social agencies, health care providers, etc.) and family members to ensure that our behaviorally challenged and/or medically fragile Individuals can develop and/or maintain their own homes and daily routines. You do this by providing first-hand training and developmental support across a broad spectrum of activities, e.g., daily living skills, mobility training, developing coping skills, navigating the community, money management, safe, self-medication management and other customized interventions based on the Individualโ€™s Service Plan.
  • You will also take care to document and complete all reporting in an accurate and timely manner and engage in proactive and open communications with all key stakeholders, including recommendations for modifications, alternative training methods or need for adaptive equipment, etc. to ensure the personal care and safety of your assigned Individual(s).

There will be chats, C.A.R.E., & cheers:

  • You will participate in all required training, team, and company meetings to build your knowledge, skills, and abilities to grow in the family. We like to promote from within our own house!
  • You will take ownership of your own behaviors, and help coach others over time, in how to effectively demonstrate the companyโ€™s C.A.R.E. values (compassion, adaptability, respect, and empowerment).
  • You will receive ongoing coaching and performance feedback and be recognized for your personal and team contributions in addition to demonstrating the C.A.R.E. values.
