What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a performance-based role?

To thrive as a Performance-Based Marketing Specialist, you need expertise in digital marketing strategies, data analysis, and a strong understanding of ROI-driven campaigns, typically supported by a degree in marketing or related fields. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, Facebook Ads Manager, and affiliate tracking platforms is crucial. Strong analytical thinking, adaptability, and effective communication set top performers apart in this role. These skills ensure that campaigns are optimized for measurable results and that marketing investments directly contribute to business growth.

How does a performance-based role typically measure and reward success?

In a performance-based role, success is generally measured using clearly defined metrics such as sales targets, client acquisition rates, or project completion outcomes. Employees are often evaluated at regular intervals, and compensation or bonuses are directly tied to achieving or exceeding these goals. Applicants should expect a results-driven environment where high performance is recognized with tangible rewards, but may also come with increased pressure to consistently meet objectives. Collaboration with other teams is common, as achieving targets may require cross-functional support and communication. It's important for candidates to be comfortable with accountability and to seek feedback regularly to ensure they are on track.

What does it mean if a job is performance based?

A performance-based job is one where compensation, advancement, or continued employment depends on an employee's ability to meet specific goals or metrics. These roles often involve sales targets, productivity benchmarks, or quality standards, and may include commissions, bonuses, or other incentives tied to performance. Success in such jobs requires strong skills, self-motivation, and the ability to track and improve performance outcomes.

Job description

Intro:

SY Financial Services is a growing financial services agency helping individuals, families, and business owners protect their income, prepare for retirement, and build long-term financial security. We're expanding and looking for relationship-driven people to join our team. This is a remote opportunity with a performance-based career path, built around a structured training and mentorship system. No prior financial services experience is required, but please read the compensation and licensing sections before applying. This opportunity fits a specific kind of person, and we'd rather you know upfront whether that's you.

About the Role:

This is outside sales in the sense that your income is entirely activity- and production-driven -- there's no assigned territory, no company-provided leads, and no existing book of accounts waiting for you. You'll build your own pipeline, starting with your own network, and grow it through referrals and new relationships you create. Once licensed, you'll meet with clients virtually to review their financial picture and present retirement and income-protection strategies, including life insurance and annuities. New team members obtain a state life insurance license, complete field training alongside an experienced mentor on real client appointments, and build skills through ongoing team training. For those who want it, there's a path to develop and lead your own team over time.

Responsibilities:

  • Prospect and generate your own client opportunities, starting with your existing network
  • Meet with clients virtually to review financial goals and needs
  • Walk clients through financial concepts and available solutions
  • Help clients implement appropriate strategies
  • Build and maintain long-term client relationships through ongoing follow-up
  • Participate in training, mentorship, and team development
  • Follow a structured appointment and field-training process

What We Provide:

  • Licensing study guidance and exam preparation support
  • One-on-one field training with an experienced mentor
  • A documented, system-driven training process
  • Remote, flexible structure -- start part-time or full-time
  • Leadership and agency-building track for those who want to grow a team
  • Uncapped, performance-based earning potential

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years old and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Able to pass a background check
  • Reliable phone, internet, and computer access
  • Willing to obtain a state life insurance license (guidance provided; licensing costs are the responsibility of the individual, and the license belongs to you, not the company)
  • Coachable, self-motivated, and comfortable building relationships and generating your own business

Compensation -- Please Read:

Compensation is 100% performance-based. There is no hourly pay and no base salary -- income depends entirely on your activity, appointments, and production, and is not guaranteed.

To be straight with you: team members who worked the business full-time for a full year have typically earned $40,000-$60,000 in their first year. Part-time results are typically lower and vary. Income is not guaranteed, and individual results vary significantly.

Realistically, plan for a 60-90 day ramp before meaningful income -- licensing, training, and building your pipeline come first. If you need immediate guaranteed pay to cover next month's bills, this isn't the right fit, and I'd rather tell you that now than waste your time.
