Position: Temporary Marching Band Percussion Instructor
Department: Academic Affairs
Report to: Band Director
Position Overview
The Temporary Percussion Instructor supports the college marching band by providing musical instruction, technique development, and performance leadership for the drumline. This role works closely with the Band Director and other instructional staff to ensure high-quality musical performance, discipline, and a positive educational environment for student musicians.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach and rehearse all percussion sections during band camp, weekly rehearsals, and performances.
- Develop and implement technique programs that strengthen rhythmic accuracy, musicality, and ensemble cohesion.
- Assist with show design, including percussion arrangements, warmups, cadences, and stand tunes as needed.
- Provide individual and group instruction to improve student musicians’ skills, confidence, and performance readiness.
- Coordinate percussion logistics, including equipment inventory, maintenance, setup, and storage.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure percussion parts align with the overall musical and visual design of the marching show.
- Model professionalism and leadership, fostering a positive, inclusive, and disciplined rehearsal environment.
- Attend all required rehearsals, performances, and events, including band camp, home games, select away games, parades, and exhibitions.
- Support recruitment efforts, helping attract and retain talented percussionists for the program.
