Description
The per diem nurse position at Choate Rosemary Hall is an unique opportunity to care for students in a residential boarding school setting. The position requires interest and ability to work autonomously as well as part of a health center team. In consultation with our nurse practitioners and adolescent specialist physician, the per diem nurse provides nursing care for students in our school-based health center and 10 bed infirmary. The per diem nurse also provides triage, first-aid and other care to students. This position requires exceptional clinical and organizational skills, flexibility, and a love of working with teens. Effective, nonjudgmental and compassionate communication with students and families, faculty, staff and the entire health center team is essential.
This is a per diem, non-exempt, non-benefits eligible position scheduled during the academic year only, this role is not scheduled to work during school breaks. The base rate pay range for this position is $35.00-$40.00 per hour.
Shift differentials are paid for evening, night, and weekend hours.
Work Performed
  • Administer medications and treatments prescribed for patients; maintain records of diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered.
  • Provide triage and supportive care. Develop and implement nursing care plans and evaluate patient's progress and nursing care given.
  • Conduct primary physical assessments, give emergency first-aid, complete point of care testing as indicated, and initiate referrals as necessary.
  • Maintain safe and nurturing environment of care in the 10-bed infirmary, including offering food and drink, changing linens, and coordinating services with facilities and food services
  • Provide education and support to students, families and staff.
  • Maintain inventory for medical equipment and supplies as well as other health center resources.
  • Complete quality assurance testing for CLIA-waived tests and equipment in the laboratory.
  • Perform other related nursing and supportive care.
Requirements
  • Graduation from accredited Nursing program, current nursing registration (or pending registration) from the State of Connecticut
  • Must have one year minimum RN experience with adolescent health.
  • School health experience preferred.
  • Must have the ability to work independently with excellent physical assessment skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
