Per Diem Walter Reed Hospital information

What does it mean to work per diem at Walter Reed Hospital?

Working per diem at Walter Reed Hospital means you are employed on an as-needed basis rather than a fixed full-time or part-time schedule. Per diem employees typically fill in for staff shortages, cover shifts, or handle increased patient loads. This type of position offers flexibility in work hours, but may not include the same benefits as full-time roles. At Walter Reed, per diem staff can include nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals who support the hospital's mission to provide care for military personnel, veterans, and their families.

What can I expect from the work schedule and team collaboration as a per diem employee at Walter Reed Hospital?

As a per diem staff member at Walter Reed Hospital, you can expect a highly flexible work schedule that often involves covering shifts on short notice, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. You will work alongside a diverse team of healthcare professionals, which fosters a collaborative environment but may also require adaptability to different team dynamics and patient care protocols. Per diem roles offer exposure to various departments and patient populations, which can enhance your clinical skills and open up future full-time career opportunities within the hospital. Communication and teamwork are essential, as you may frequently transition between units and work with different supervisors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem nurse at Walter Reed Hospital?

To excel as a Per Diem Nurse at Walter Reed Hospital, you need a valid nursing license, strong clinical skills, and the ability to quickly adapt to various departments or specialties. Familiarity with hospital electronic medical records (EMR) systems, such as Epic or Cerner, and up-to-date certifications in BLS/ACLS are typically required. Excellent communication, flexibility, and resilience are crucial soft skills due to the variable work hours and fast-paced environment. These competencies ensure safe, high-quality patient care and seamless integration into different hospital teams as needed.
