A Day in the Life

As a Field Data Specialist - Archeologist you will support fieldwork throughout the Northern California regions. This is field-based position that will require travel. Applicants must have their own vehicles to travel to assigned project sites. Per GSA guidelines, per diem may be available for some locations. This position may involve extended shifts up to 12 hours and may include day or night shifts.

Job Type:Part-Time/Temporary (This position is considered temporary and as such there are no associated benefits, but you are eligible for paid time off in accordance with our sick time policy)

Pay:$27-35/hour (based on training, duties, and project type)
Schedule:This is an as-needed position with a flexible schedule and based on demand with no guaranteed minimum.

Location: Northern California: We're currently looking for applicants who live within a reasonable driving distance of the greater Sacramento and Bay Area, CA areas. At this time, we are not offering relocation or travel assistance. If you're applying from outside the area, please note that relocation or travel would be at your own expense.

This role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:

  • Conduct pedestrian surveys, construction monitoring, and testing, including collection of field data, digital photography, artifact identification, GPS data collection, and mapping.
  • Coordinate with construction crews on monitoring needs and schedules.
  • Maintain project files and confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulatory standards in environmental technical areas.
  • Interact with customers and clients.
  • Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Your Expertise and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related discipline.
  • Completion of an archaeological field school or equivalent experience.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in California with a range of field tasks, including archaeological survey, construction monitoring, and site recording.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted driver's license and own transportation, with travel often required off of paved roads.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to work well with others as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with construction crews.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word and Excel and ability to use related computer systems and software.
  • Experience with GPS equipment and Field Maps, Survey 123, or a similar software program is required.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.

FREQUENT:

  • Work outdoors and may be exposed to hot and cold environments and extreme weather conditions including but not limited to: sunlight, rain, snow, windy conditions;

  • Ability to travel as needed throughout Northern California;
  • Ability to carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds;
  • Long hours involving overtime and weekends as necessary;
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, GPS device, and/or paper copy;
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Encounter environments presenting physical hazards including: uneven ground, standing water, ditches, dusty conditions, rapidly moving transportation/remediation equipment, and physical stress associated with the wear of personal protective equipment; and
  • May work in a setting with potential physical, chemical, and biological hazards.

OCCASIONAL:

  • Ability to drive non-commercial vehicles;
  • May be assigned varying shifts including overnight shifts;
  • May work at altitudes greater than 5000 feet above sea level; and
  • May work on waterways, sea, or air.
