Per Diem Radiology Extender information

What is a per diem radiology extender?

Per Diem Radiology Extenders are healthcare professionals, such as radiology physician assistants or nurse practitioners, who support radiologists on an as-needed basis. They perform a range of tasks, including patient preparation, conducting preliminary imaging assessments, assisting with procedures, and communicating results to patients or other healthcare providers. Working per diem means they are hired to work shifts as required, rather than on a full-time or part-time schedule, offering flexibility for both the employer and the employee. Their role helps improve workflow efficiency and patient care in radiology departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem radiology extender?

To thrive as a Per Diem Radiology Extender, you need a background in radiologic technology or a related healthcare field, with appropriate certification such as ARRT or state licensure. Familiarity with imaging equipment, PACS systems, and electronic health records is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, adaptability, and attention to detail are crucial for interacting with patients and supporting radiologists in a flexible, on-demand setting. These skills ensure accurate imaging support, efficient workflow, and high-quality patient care in dynamic clinical environments.

What are some common challenges faced by per diem radiology extenders in adapting to different clinical settings?
