Job description

Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) provides specialized nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical procedures. This role involves monitoring patient status, managing pain and complications, and ensuring safe recovery through skilled clinical interventions. The RN collaborates closely with the surgical team and interdisciplinary staff to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. Competency in phlebotomy and IV placement is required, along with certifications in ACLS, BLS, and PALS. At least one year of relevant experience is expected.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide Phase I PACU care including close monitoring of vital signs and patient stability immediately post-surgery.
  • Deliver Phase II recovery care, preparing patients for discharge or transfer to inpatient units.
  • Manage patients recovering from Endoscopy, Laparoscopic, General, Orthopedic, Spine, and Total Joint surgeries.
  • Perform phlebotomy and intravenous (IV) catheter placement as required for patient care.
  • Assess and manage pain, nausea, and other postoperative complications promptly and effectively.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
  • Document patient care accurately using the Epic electronic health record system.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, safety standards, and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and competency validation.
  • Respond to emergency situations in the PACU with appropriate interventions.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
  • Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience, preferably in PACU or related acute care settings.
  • Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
  • Certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
