What is a Per Diem Loyola Hospital RN?

A Per Diem Loyola Hospital RN is a registered nurse who works at Loyola Hospital on an as-needed basis, rather than having a set or full-time schedule. These nurses fill staffing gaps, cover shifts due to staff absences, or respond to higher patient volumes. Per diem RNs typically have flexible schedules and may work in various departments depending on their experience and the hospital's needs. While they receive a higher hourly wage, they may not receive the same benefits as full-time staff. This role is ideal for nurses seeking flexibility or supplemental income.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Per Diem Loyola Hospital RN?

To thrive as a Per Diem Loyola Hospital RN, you need a valid RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and experience in acute care settings. Familiarity with electronic health record systems, hospital protocols, and current certifications like BLS and ACLS are typically required. Flexibility, excellent communication, and the ability to quickly adapt to new teams and environments are standout soft skills. These competencies ensure that per diem nurses deliver safe, effective patient care while integrating seamlessly into different units as needed.

What are the typical scheduling expectations and flexibility for a Per Diem Loyola Hospital RN?

As a Per Diem RN at Loyola Hospital, you can expect a high degree of scheduling flexibility, often with the ability to select shifts based on your availability and the hospital's needs. However, you may be asked to work evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays, especially during periods of high patient census or staff shortages. While this flexibility is appealing to many, it can also mean less predictability in your work schedule and requires adaptability. Being proactive in communication with nurse managers and staying up-to-date with hospital scheduling systems can help you secure preferred shifts and maintain a desirable work-life balance.
