About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a growing organization in the energy industry seeking a Senior Accountant to join its Houston-based accounting team. Reporting to the Controller, this position will play an important role in supporting operational accounting activities across a multi-entity environment, with an emphasis on joint interest billing (JIB), cash application, reconciliations, and month-end close.
This is a hands-on senior individual contributor opportunity for an oil and gas accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership of their work while collaborating across accounting and operations. The organization offers a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with exposure to a variety of accounting activities and opportunities to contribute to process improvements as the business continues to grow.
This position is onsite in Houston five days per week.
Salary Range: $95,000-$115,000

Responsibilities
  • Manage joint interest billing and related operational accounting activities for a portfolio of oil and gas properties.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, operating cost allocations, and other recurring accounting entries.
  • Perform account and cash reconciliations, research discrepancies, and resolve complex outstanding items within established close timelines.
  • Apply and record incoming cash associated with receivables, revenue, and other business activity across multiple entities.
  • Monitor daily banking transactions and prepare related cash activity reporting and accounting entries.
  • Support accounting activities associated with AFEs, property expenditures, and other operational projects.
  • Execute assigned month-end close responsibilities and prepare supporting schedules and account analyses.
  • Assist with partner inquiries and provide accounting guidance related to joint interest and operational matters.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders in support of audits and other recurring accounting requirements.
  • Assist with tax reporting, property-related accounting, and other annual compliance activities.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and ensure accounting activities are performed in accordance with established policies and controls.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior accounting team members as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve controls, and increase efficiency across the department.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor`s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of operational accounting experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong hands-on experience with joint interest billing and cash application.
  • Experience using OGSYS accounting software.
  • Working knowledge of JIB, Joint Operating Agreements (JOA), and COPAS accounting practices.
  • Experience with cash reconciliations, account analysis, and month-end close in a multi-entity environment.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas accounting and document management platforms.
  • Experience supporting 1099 reporting and property tax-related accounting activities.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to effectively research and resolve accounting discrepancies and complex reconciling items.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Previous experience mentoring or supporting junior accounting professionals is preferred.
  • Experience with joint venture audits, non-operated accounting, acquisition-related accounting, or system implementations is a plus.
  • CPA or progress toward CPA certification is preferred.
