Job description


SUMMARY: The General Foreman (GFM) develops crews, monitors progress and ensures projects stay on schedule and within allotted time and cost budgets. The GFM is responsible for ensuring projects are properly planned, including ordering and receiving materials, coordinating equipment availability, and ensuring crews understand the plan to execute successfully and safely within the given timelines.

  • The Civil GFM oversees and ensures proper execution of trenching, concrete work, grading, and other ground-related tasks while maintaining quality and safety standards.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:


  • Construction Management:
    • Plan, coordinate, and manage project construction from start to finish, ensuring compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
    • Assist the Project Manager with the creation of critical path schedules for new sites.
    • Maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation plans.
    • Monitor project progress, identify potential issues, and implement corrective measures to ensure timely completion in co-ordination with other construction managers when required.
    • Ensure project resources such as materials, tools, and equipment are scheduled and delivered per the project plan.
    • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure adherence to project specifications, quality standards, and safety guidelines.
    • Coordinate and communicate with project stakeholders, including other construction managers, project managers, customers, and subcontractors.
  • Team Leadership and Coordination:
    • Supervise and lead crews and subcontractors, ensuring efficient utilization of resources and adherence to project goals and ratios.
    • Assign tasks, provide technical guidance, and resolve any conflicts or issues that may arise.
    • Foster a collaborative work environment, promoting effective communication and teamwork among team members.
    • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to team members to support their professional development.
    • Manage, reviews and approve daily time and reporting from assigned Foreman and Subcontractors.
    • Create and monitor two week-look ahead and daily schedules for assigned crew types.
  • Quality Control and Safety:
    • Implement and enforce quality control measures to ensure the highest standards of workmanship and compliance with project requirements.
    • Conduct regular inspections to identify and rectify any defects, deviations, or non-compliance issues.
    • Promote and enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, training and regulations, creating a safe work environment for all personnel on-site.
  • For Civil GFMs - Ground-Related Activities:
    • Oversee trenching, concrete work, fence installation, soil management, grading, SWIP (Storm Water Pollution Prevention), and machine operations.
    • Ensure proper planning and execution of ground-related activities, maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Other duties as assigned


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 – 5 years related experience as a Foreman or Construction Manager in one of the following specialties: Civil
  • Strong understanding of the safety processes, OSHA requirements, and work done on construction sites, for one of the following construction specialties: Civil, Mechanical, Telecommunications or Electrical.
  • Possess or can obtain certifications/licenses in OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, RF Awareness, Blood Borne Pathogens, DOT Health Card (Company provides training to assist in obtaining/renewing required certifications)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, crews, job sites and customers
  • Proven ability to focus on daily construction processes as well as look ahead to anticipate and plan for upcoming work
  • Proven ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schematics and SOW
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to communicate effectively, clearly and succinctly through spoken and written forms with peers, management, and customers. Able to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to learn and use Premise provided software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products/construction management software
  • Excellent organizational, problem solving, analytical and attention to detail skills
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a clean driving record
  • This position requires up to 100% travel and the ability to work at various locations as business needs dictate. Per diem may be provided to employees who qualify under the company's Travel and Per Diem Policy.
  • For Civil GFMs only:
    • Experience operating heavy equipment and forming, pouring and setting concrete.
    • Preference for the possession of a valid CDL driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit, walk, lift, squat, push, pull, climb stairs and ladders, hear, see, reach, grasp and use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, power tools, motorized vehicles and equipment. The employee must have the ability to occasionally lift more than 50 lbs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee will work both inside in a normal indoor office environment and outside at remote job sites. The employee may be exposed to extreme weather conditions, including heat and cold and wet or humid. The employee may work in high places, and/or work around moving mechanical parts, vehicles and other equipment. The employee may also work in areas where the noise volume is loud and constant. The employee must have the ability to travel to remote job sites up to 60% as needed which may include occasional overnight stays.
