Per Diem Informatics Pharmacist information

What is a per diem informatics pharmacist?

A Per Diem Informatics Pharmacist is a licensed pharmacist who works on an as-needed basis and specializes in the integration of pharmacy practice with information technology. Their primary role is to help optimize medication management systems, implement and maintain pharmacy-related software, and support clinical staff in using these technologies. They may also participate in troubleshooting, staff training, and ensuring regulatory compliance within healthcare facilities. Because they work per diem, their schedule is flexible and based on the organization's needs.

How does a per diem informatics pharmacist typically integrate with pharmacy and IT teams in a healthcare setting?

A Per Diem Informatics Pharmacist often serves as a bridge between pharmacy operations and health IT, collaborating with both clinical pharmacists and IT specialists to optimize medication-use systems. They may participate in EHR updates, medication order set reviews, and troubleshooting technology-related issues on an as-needed basis. Because the per diem schedule is flexible, clear communication and adaptability are essential to quickly align with ongoing projects and workflows. This role provides valuable exposure to interdisciplinary teamwork and can offer pathways to more permanent informatics positions in the future.

To thrive as a Per Diem Informatics Pharmacist, you need a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree, active pharmacist licensure, and specialized knowledge in pharmacy informatics.
