Surgical Technologist Instructor (CST) (Per Diem)

JOB SUMMARY

The surgical technologist instructors are responsible for the education of surgical technology students through didactic instruction, laboratory, and other clinical skills and experience components of the surgical technology program. The instructor's role is to provide ST students with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to gain employment as entry-level surgical technologists and become contributing members of the health care team. This will be accomplished by preparing competent graduates in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains and meeting or exceeding the criteria set forth in the current CAAHEP Standards and Guidelines for the Accreditation of Educational Programs in Surgical Technology.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Associate's Degree required. Graduate from a CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program.
  • Experience: Total of three (3) years of experience, either in the operating room scrub/preceptor role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five (5) years.
  • Licensure, Certification, Registration: Possess a current CST credential in the field of surgical technology through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Preferred Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience: Total of five (5) years of experience, either in the operating room scrub/preceptor role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past seven (7) years.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

  • Demonstrate effective teaching of the ST core courses assigned.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in coordinating clinical rotations and effective communication with HHC educators, preceptors, surgeons, surgical and administrative staff.
  • Maintain knowledge/strict adherence to the AST/AORN standards, guidelines, policies and procedures for the CST role/scope of practice by consistently teaching/modeling CSTII/III behaviors.
  • Pursue ongoing formal training designed to increase instructional methodology, maintain and upgrade clinical, instructional and professional capabilities.
  • Ability to adapt J+HHC's H3W leadership behaviors and model it on a daily basis.
