Unlike full-time or part-time staff, per diem nurses have flexible schedules and may fill in for staff shortages or during periods of high patient demand. Their duties typically include patient assessments, wound care, medication administration, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to develop care plans. This role requires strong clinical skills, adaptability, and the ability to work independently in a home setting.

To thrive as a Per Diem Home Health RN, you need a current RN license, strong clinical assessment skills, and experience in home health care settings. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, remote monitoring tools, and OASIS documentation is typically required. Excellent time management, independence, and effective communication are vital soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure high-quality, patient-centered care while adapting to the unique challenges and autonomy of home health nursing.
