Per diem instructors typically provide flying lessons, ground instruction, and check rides on a flexible schedule. This role is ideal for instructors seeking flexible work hours or those supplementing their primary employment. Compensation and scheduling can vary widely based on employer and location.

What are the typical responsibilities and scheduling expectations for a per diem flight instructor?

As a Per Diem Flight Instructor, your primary responsibilities include providing flight training to students on an as-needed basis, conducting pre- and post-flight briefings, and ensuring compliance with FAA regulations. Scheduling is highly flexible and often depends on student demand and weather conditions, so you may work irregular hours, including weekends or evenings. You’ll typically collaborate with other instructors and flight school staff to ensure student progress and safety. This role is ideal for those seeking part-time or supplementary work while maintaining professional flying experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a per diem flight instructor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Per Diem Flight Instructor, you generally need a commercial pilot certificate, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) rating, and a strong grasp of aeronautical knowledge and flight safety procedures.
