Smart Energy Solutions Group (SESG) provides data center construction support, commissioning, and technical field services across North America. We specialize in MV/LV electrical infrastructure, including switchgear, transformers, UPS, and critical power systems. We support projects from equipment delivery through startup, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness, working closely with owners, contractors, and OEM partners to ensure safe, efficient, and successful project execution.

Role

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Data Center Electrical Commissioning Technician. The technician will support commissioning activities for data center electrical systems, including participating in pre-functional checks, functional testing, and integrated systems testing, and documenting results. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting inspections, performing test procedures on electrical equipment, assisting with the startup and verification of MV/LV systems, and identifying and reporting defects or deficiencies. The role also involves troubleshooting electrical issues in coordination with engineering, construction, and OEM teams, while maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols, quality standards, and project schedules. The technician will prepare and update test reports, support punch-list resolution, and contribute to smooth turnover to operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Level 3 Startup (L3) and Level 4 Functional Testing (L4) activities.
  • Execute commissioning procedures and test scripts.
  • Support energization and startup of electrical systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and control system issues.
  • Coordinate with OEM representatives, commissioning agents, and project teams.
  • Complete commissioning reports, test documentation, and observation tracking.
  • Verify protection relay settings and electrical system functionality.
  • Support observation resolution and turnover activities.
  • Participate in site meetings and safety briefings.
  • Maintain compliance with client, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in electrical commissioning, testing, startup, maintenance, or troubleshooting of MV/LV power systems.
  • Hands-on experience with switchgear, transformers, UPS, PDC/PDU systems, protective relays, or data center electrical infrastructure.
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, test procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and electrical safety knowledge, including lockout/tagout practices.
  • Experience in data centers, industrial facilities, mission-critical environments, or similar electrical infrastructure projects preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout the United States.
  • Technical diploma, trade school certification, or degree in Electrical Engineering/Technology preferred.
  • OSHA 10/30, NFPA 70E, NETA, Eaton, Schneider, ABB, Siemens, or similar certifications are a plus.
