Job description

Per Diem Registered Nurse

This position requires floating between our Pawtucket, RI and Barrington, RI clinical sites. Please include availability in application. The Per Diem Nurse will report to the managing Contrast Coverage Radiologist to support and monitor MRI and CT patients where intravascular contrast agents are utilized.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage acute hypersensitivity and physiologic drug reactions. This may be done using diagnostic decision-making or by use of a symptom- and sign-driven treatment algorithm as is commonly used in nursing.
  • Appropriately administer reassurance, oxygen, antihistamine, intravenous fluids, beta2-agonist inhaler, epinephrine, and/or position changes.
  • Understand when to call for assistance and how to activate emergency response system(s).

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

  • Ability to use judgement and call for assistance/activate emergency response system(s) when needed.
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical and/or emotional stress, referring physicians and staff, the radiologist, fellow employees, suppliers and service representatives and any and all others who they come in contact with during the course of the business day.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide proper patient care.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills to perform procedure/policy as outlined by governing bodies and RIMI protocol.

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Must have an active and valid RI license, CPR, and BLS certification.

EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three years of contrast coverage experience preferred.

PER DIEM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

A per diem employee must meet the following requirements. If there are no shifts offered in any given month, the employee will not be penalized.

  • Must be an external candidate to apply.
  • Employee must work a minimum of 16 hours/month.
  • Employee must pick up the entire posted shift*
  • Employee must pick up at least 1 weekend shift/month.
  • Employee must work at least 1 "holiday" weekend shift per year, which can be a day surrounding a holiday or a shift during peak vacation time.
  • Employee must not refuse more than 2 shifts/month.
    • To include:
      • Refusing an open shift that causes a room closure or patient(s) cancellation.
      • Cancelling a scheduled shift.

*In modalities where compliance requires that two (2) techs be present, shifts must be picked up as they are posted.
