Job description

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking an hourly/per-diem Speech Pathologist 2. The successful candidate will:

  • Perform swallowing evaluations.
  • Conduct modified barium swallow (MBS) studies for patients of all ages.
  • Determine appropriate diet recommendations.
  • Coordinate with dietary, nursing, and medical staff in managing diet textures, consistencies, and restrictions.
  • Educate residents, nurses, physicians, patients, and families regarding alternative nutrition methods.
  • Document results of assessments, evaluations, and studies, etc.

Required Qualifications

  • New York State Speech Language Pathology Licensure.
  • Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • 1+ year of speech pathology work experience within a hospital setting.
  • Excellent bedside manner, communication, and time management skills.
  • Or, a satsifactor equivalent combination of experience, education and training.ย
