JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Driver (Non-CDL) Status: Part time
Exemption Status: Non-exempt
Department/Location: St. Augustine Catholic High School / Tucson
Primary Function: Under the direction of the Director of Transportation, the employee is responsible for safely transporting St. Augustine Catholic High School students on the school's daily after-school activity route. The employee will operate a school-owned 14-passenger non-CDL minibus and is responsible for completing required vehicle inspections, maintaining the cleanliness and readiness of the vehicle, and following all school transportation policies and procedures. The Employee shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic Teaching behaviorally while at work and in his/her personal life, “…Live in a manner worthy of the call you have received.” (Eph. 4:1)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support the Church's spiritual and pastoral mission and the mission of St. Augustine Catholic High School.
  • Shall abide by Catholic principles in the employee’s professional and private life and shall govern his/her professional and private life in strict accordance with Catholic morals and principles to demonstrate complete adherence to Catholic moral strictures.
  • Safely transport students from St. Augustine Catholic High School to designated school transportation stops.
  • Operate a school-owned 14-passenger non-CDL minibus in accordance with all applicable laws, regulations, and school policies.
  • Follow the established daily activity route, schedule, and designated drop-off locations.
  • Complete required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Report any mechanical, safety, or operational concerns immediately to the Director of Transportation.
  • Ensure all students remain seated and follow appropriate safety expectations while the vehicle is in motion.
  • Maintain appropriate supervision and professional conduct while transporting students.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance and transportation records as required.
  • Safely load and unload students at designated locations.
  • Refuel the vehicle as needed and maintain adequate fuel levels for daily operations.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the assigned vehicle.
  • Secure the vehicle, keys, and required transportation materials at the conclusion of each route.
  • Report any student behavioral concerns, incidents, accidents, or emergencies immediately to the Director of Transportation.
  • Follow all school procedures regarding student safety, emergency situations, accidents, and vehicle breakdowns.
  • Assist with other transportation-related duties or routes when requested and as scheduling permits.
  • Assist with occasional athletic or field trip transportation when qualified, available, and assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and school information.
  • Maintain a safe, professional, and respectful environment for all students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical/Mental Requirements: Requires coordination and manual dexterity; normal mental and visual ability; ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and assist students as necessary. Ability to lift and carry equipment or materials weighing up to 45 lbs. as required in a normal transportation environment. Basic Qualifications:
  • Must have a working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of the Diocese and Catholic Church; must be in full communion with the Catholic Church
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the Diocese of Tucson and St. Augustine Catholic High School.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required school, Diocese, and transportation-related background and driver screening requirements.
  • Ability to safely operate a 14-passenger non-CDL school minibus.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written; excellent human relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Exercise courtesy and professionalism with students, parents, employees, school community, and the general public.
  • Must be dependable, punctual, responsible, and safety-conscious.
  • Ability to work independently and follow established routes, schedules, and procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional when dealing with students, traffic, delays, or unexpected situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the Transportation Department, Athletic Department, administration, coaches, faculty, staff, and families.
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background and criminal history check.
  • Must be able to read and follow written directions, vehicle instructions, and safety warnings
  • Must successfully complete and required Diocese, school, transportation, or driver training.
Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience transporting children, students, or passengers preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience operating a passenger van, school vehicle, or similar vehicle preferred.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents preferred.
