Overview
East Penn Mfg., a world class leader in lead-acid battery manufacturing has an opening for a CDL-B Delivery Driver position at our Waddell Power facility in New Albany, Indiana. Drive dedicated with East Penn and enjoy a consistent schedule and pay, onsite management and regular deliveries to dedicated customers. Guaranteed 40 hours per week, normally with a 5 day work week but schedule may vary based off need and scheduled runs. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, works well independently, and has a customer focused mindset.
This position will pay $30.18 per hour.
Pay rates are determined by role, level, and location. Individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education and training.
Responsibilities
Drives a diesel or gasoline powered straight van with a gross vehicle weight rating of up to 54,000 lbs.
  • Verifies freight with shipping papers.
  • Drives to specified locations with knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, state and local driving laws, and hazardous materials regulations.
  • Applies knowledge and skill of highway navigation to maneuver a vehicle in various situations (such as narrow passageways, heavy traffic, and adverse weather conditions).
  • Inspects the vehicle for mechanical and safety defects before and after each trip and submits a report indicating the vehicle's condition.
  • Maintains a Driver's Daily Log according to Federal regulations.
  • Prepares shipping papers for freight received.
  • Interacts with customers when delivering or receiving freight.
  • Maintains telephone contact with the Industrial Sales and Service Office to receive instructions.
  • May assist in loading or unloading with a pallet truck or forklift.
  • May be required to place deliveries at the delivery site according to the customer instructions.
  • Performs emergency roadside repairs such as changing tires and installing light bulbs, fuses, or tire chains.
  • Trips may range from 1 to 2 days in length.
  • Delivers and picks up freight from specified locations such as warehouses, stores, industrial plants, railroad yards, shipping piers, and small businesses.
  • Required to prepare product on pallets for transport, adhering to DOT and Hazmat regulations.
  • Maintains regular attendance.
  • Ability to work mandatory over time.
  • Performs other duties as requested by Management.

Qualifications
  • Class "B" Commercial Driver's License with Endorsements for Air Brakes and Hazmat (endorsements not required prior to employment but obtainment required during probationary period) Training provided.
  • Literate with good communication and math skills.
  • Must currently reside in the Greater New Albany, IN and Louisville, KY area.
