What are Peer Success Coaches?

Peer Success Coaches are students who are trained to provide academic and personal support to their fellow students. They help peers navigate college life, set goals, develop study skills, and connect with campus resources. By sharing their own experiences and insights, Peer Success Coaches foster a supportive environment that promotes student success and retention. They often work closely with academic advising offices, tutoring centers, or student success programs.

How do Peer Success Coaches typically balance supporting students with maintaining professional boundaries?

Peer Success Coaches often face the unique challenge of providing empathetic, relatable support to fellow students while also upholding professional standards. They are trained to listen actively, share relevant experiences, and guide peers to campus resources, but must avoid giving personal advice outside their scope or becoming too involved in students’ personal issues. Regular supervision, ongoing training, and clear guidelines from program coordinators help Peer Success Coaches maintain these boundaries, ensuring they remain effective and supportive mentors. This balance fosters a safe and productive environment for both the coach and the students they assist.
