Who We Are

The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute), Newe (Western Shoshone), and Washeshu (Washoe). These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival.
Each group's name means "The People" in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region.
Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community.

What You'll Do

As a Peer Support Specialist, you'll help clients move toward healthier mental and physical well-being through recovery-oriented, person- and family-centered support. This role exists to strengthen engagement in behavioral health services and connect individuals to coordinated care.
Key responsibilities include individualized health coaching; co-facilitating groups/classes; supporting informed, healthy decision-making; collaborating with behavioral health professionals and Case Managers; participating in treatment planning and team meetings; and maintaining timely, accurate documentation in the electronic health record. You will follow NAC 458 ethics and comply with CFR42 Part II and HIPAA confidentiality requirements.
Required qualifications/skills:
- Peer Support certification at time of employment
- High school diploma/GED; personal history as a consumer of mental health and/or substance use disorder
- Valid Nevada driver's license, proof of insurance, clean driving record/DMV report
- Ability to respond to varied client needs; physical stamina for bending, lifting, and prolonged standing
- Obtain First Aid and infant/adult CPR within 3 months and maintain

A Typical Day

Your day runs Mondayโ€“Friday, 8:00 amโ€“5:00 pm, onsite in Reno. You'll start by reviewing the day's schedule and notes in the EHR, then meet with clients for one-on-one coaching focused on practical steps toward their goals. Midday may include co-leading a class or group conversation where clients share progress and learn strategies they can use right away.
Between sessions, you'll coordinate with the care team, align on next steps discussed in meetings, and follow up on referrals or resources so clients don't lose momentum. You'll close out the afternoon by updating documentation, confirming upcoming appointments, and ensuring records and communications remain confidential and accurate.
