Job description:

Position Summary

The Maternity and Pediatrics Didactic Faculty member is responsible for providing classroom instruction in maternity and pediatric nursing to nursing students. The faculty member delivers course content in accordance with the approved curriculum and syllabus, facilitates student learning, evaluates academic performance, and maintains professional and academic standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned maternity and pediatric nursing courses in accordance with the approved course syllabus and curriculum.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging classroom lectures, presentations, discussions, and other instructional activities.
  • Present current evidence-based concepts related to maternal, newborn, pediatric, and family-centered nursing care.
  • Explain nursing concepts related to assessment, clinical judgment, health promotion, disease prevention, and patient safety.
  • Incorporate current nursing standards, guidelines, and professional practices into classroom instruction.
  • Develop and/or utilize appropriate instructional materials, assignments, examinations, and learning activities.
  • Evaluate and document student academic performance in accordance with institutional policies and course requirements.
  • Provide students with timely and constructive feedback regarding their academic progress.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and other required academic records.
  • Hold office hours or provide appropriate student support as required by the College.
  • Communicate with students and academic leadership in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, orientations, training, and other academic activities as assigned.
  • Maintain compliance with College policies, academic procedures, and applicable nursing education requirements.
  • Maintain professional knowledge through continuing education and current practice in maternity and/or pediatric nursing.
  • Perform other related academic duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or higher from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in maternity and/or pediatric nursing.
  • Prior teaching or nursing education experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to effectively teach diverse student populations.
  • Commitment to student learning, academic integrity, and professional nursing standards.
Physical and Professional Requirements
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, and administration.
  • Ability to use standard educational technology, learning management systems, and Microsoft Office or similar applications.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and complying with applicable institutional policies and regulations.
Employment Expectations

The faculty member is expected to:

  • Follow the approved syllabus, course schedule, academic calendar, and curriculum.
  • Obtain prior approval from the appropriate academic administrator before making substantive changes to the approved course syllabus or course requirements.
  • Meet all scheduled instructional and academic responsibilities.
  • Maintain professional conduct and appropriate faculty-student boundaries.
  • Submit grades, attendance records, and required documentation by established deadlines.
  • Notify the appropriate academic administrator promptly regarding any anticipated absence or inability to fulfill assigned teaching responsibilities.
