What do pediatricians do?

Pediatricians manage the physical and mental health of children. They conduct routine check-ups and diagnose and treat childhood illnesses and injuries. Pediatricians monitor children from birth, checking on their condition in the hospital. As they get older, children visit pediatricians on a regular schedule for physicals and vaccinations. With each visit, the pediatrician tracks the growth and development of the child and discusses any concerns with the parents. Parents rely on pediatricians to help them with more than just physical ailments; pediatricians often provide suggestions and recommendations on a child’s diet, behavior, and development. Family or general practitioners also treat children, but many parents choose to take their kids to pediatricians for more specialized care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a pediatrician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pediatrician, you need a medical degree, board certification in pediatrics, and strong knowledge of child development and diseases. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and pediatric diagnostic tools is typically required. Excellent communication, patience, and empathy are essential for effectively interacting with children and their families. These skills and qualifications are crucial for accurately diagnosing conditions, providing compassionate care, and building trust with patients and caregivers.

What are some common challenges pediatricians face when communicating with both children and their parents?

Pediatricians often navigate the unique challenge of communicating complex medical information in a way that is reassuring and understandable for both children and their caregivers. Building trust requires adapting language and approach to suit the child's age and developmental stage, while also addressing parents' concerns and expectations. Balancing the needs of the patient and the family, especially in stressful or emotional situations, is a key part of the role. Successful pediatricians develop strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster positive relationships and ensure the best outcomes for their young patients.

At Marquis MD, culture isn't a slogan; it is the foundation of how we practice medicine. We operate as one team, unified by a shared purpose: delivering care that feels deeply personal, anticipatory, and human.
We meet patients where they are-physically and emotionally-and we build lasting relationships that prioritize understanding over volume, prevention over reaction, and empathy over efficiency.
Every decision is guided by our commitment to excellence, integrity, and the belief that exceptional care begins with exceptional connection.
Recognition & Awards
Marquis MD benefits from the recognition awarded to the broader ICBD corporate ecosystem, including:
  • Inc. 5000 - 25th Fastest-Growing Private Company in America (2025).
  • Financial Times - #5 on "The Americas' Fastest Growing Companies."
  • EY Entrepreneur Of The Year® U.S. Overall.
  • South Florida Business Journal's Top 100 Companies.
  • Florida Trend Magazine's 500 Most Influential Business Leaders.
  • Inc. Best in Business, Health Services.

About the Role
We are seeking a Board Certified Pediatrician to join Marquis MD Pediatrics and help shape the clinical culture, referral relationships, and care model of the practice. The ideal candidate is clinically exceptional, genuinely relationship-driven, and motivated by the opportunity to practice pediatrics the way it was designed to be practiced: with time, continuity, and a patient panel small enough to actually know every family.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive primary care to a limited, curated panel of pediatric members from newborn through adolescence across all membership tiers
  • Conduct well-child visits, developmental and behavioral screenings, acute illness evaluations, chronic disease management, and adolescent care - with appointment time that reflects the complexity of the visit
  • Build and maintain genuine physician-family relationships; know your patients by name, history, and circumstance - not by chart number
  • Provide direct physician access to members via secure messaging, with same-day and next-day appointment availability as the standard
  • Conduct in-house phlebotomy oversight and rapid point-of-care testing (strep, flu, RSV, COVID, bilirubin, glucose) - eliminating the need for families to visit a separate lab
  • Coordinate specialist referrals with close-loop communication; be reachable by the specialists you refer to
  • Actively build and maintain referral relationships with OB/GYNs, neonatologists, pediatric specialists, private schools, and community partners as an ongoing part of the role
  • Contribute to the clinical standards, protocols, and care model of Marquis MD Pediatrics
  • Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in the practice EMR

Requirements
  • M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution
  • Board Certification in Pediatrics (ABP or AOA)
  • Active and unrestricted Florida medical license, or eligibility and commitment to obtain prior to launch
  • DEA registration
  • Minimum 2 years of clinical pediatric experience post-residency
  • BLS and PALS certification

Preferred
  • Experience in concierge, direct primary care, membership-based, or private practice settings
  • Clinical relationships in the OB/GYN, neonatology, or pediatric specialist community in Palm Beach or Broward County - these relationships are a material asset in a pre-launch context
  • Sub-specialty depth in adolescent medicine, developmental pediatrics, integrative pediatric health, or pediatric nutrition
  • Demonstrated patient satisfaction and communication excellence

Benefits
  • PTO: The Company offers a generous Paid Time Off plan that accrues at a set rate, increasing with years of service. For your first year, the accrual rate is 6.15 hours per bi-weekly pay period, equivalent to 160 hours (20 days) of PTO. It is company policy that no PTO days are to be taken within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Insurance: We offer a company-wide benefits program that includes medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance plan.
  • 401k: The Company offers a robust 401k program that includes up to a 6% employer match (or the maximum allowable by law) annually.
  • Malpractice Insurance: Marquis MD will pay for your coverage, including tail coverage.
  • Licensing: Marquis MD will pay for your relevant license fees.
