Shape the Next Generation of Pediatricians in California's Capital!

Sutter Medical Group (SMG) is seeking a dynamic, visionary Program Director for our Pediatric Residency Program in Sacramento, California.

This 1.0 FTE role includes 0.5 FTE protected time as Program Director and 0.5 FTE in clinical practice (general pediatrics or pediatric subspecialty). This is a rare opportunity to lead, innovate, and build within a growing academic program while maintaining meaningful clinical engagement.

As Program Director, you will:

  • Direct all operations of the Pediatric Residency Program

  • Ensure compliance with ABP, ACGME, and institutional standards

  • Lead strategic planning for resident recruitment, education, and retention

  • Foster a culture of excellence in teaching, mentorship, and patient care

  • Oversee clinical training experiences across ambulatory and inpatient settings

  • Collaborate closely with faculty, hospital leadership, and GME administration

You will play a pivotal leadership role in shaping the future pediatric workforce while delivering high-quality clinical care alongside residents and faculty.

Qualifications:

  • Documented educational and administrative experience acceptable to the ACGME Pediatrics Review Committee.

  • Actively involved in clinical care of patients.

  • Knowledge of health care delivery and administration, as well as legal and ethical issues related to health care.

  • Ability to work with a team approach to management. Ability to work as a member of a team to solicit input from other affected departments or individuals, communicate pertinent information to other team members, and support team decisions.

  • Ability to be persuasive and diplomatic in encouraging teamwork and cooperation in the pursuit of excellence in service.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and exercise sound and responsible judgment.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal. Ability to establish constructive working relationships with all levels of management and employees in a staff of varied and diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to handle difficult or confrontational situations in a calm, consistent, and equitable manner.

  • Ability to supervise others and delegate effectively.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

  • Ability to effectively represent the program's interests in the community; maintaining effective working relationships among public, private, and professional groups.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current California medical license and Board Certification in Pediatrics.

  • As required for appropriate clinical privileges.
