Job description

Job Overview

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall management of construction projects, including cost estimates, scheduling, procurement, and logistical coordination. Project Managers are involved with subcontractor/vendor management and coordinate activities with customers, design and engineering teams. They carry financial performance and compliance responsibilities and must ensure the project follows all operating guidelines while consistently achieving objectives. A successful Project Manager must be detail‑oriented, innovative, creative, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Project Managers must perform under pressure and maintain strict budgets and schedules. They must mentor and teach other team members while maintaining relationships with owners, co‑workers, vendors, suppliers, and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to ensure projects are designed, procured, and constructed within financial and operating guidelines.
  • Develop and monitor job progress schedules to keep construction on track.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for compliance with the scope of work.
  • Issue and manage required vendor and trade subcontracts, providing clear definitions of work responsibilities, and review and approve subcontractor and vendor payment requests.
  • Purchase and monitor delivery of all needed materials to ensure optimum prices, quality, and conformance to specifications.
  • Visit jobsites weekly (when possible) to review progress and quality of work and conduct jobsite coordinator meetings covering ongoing responsibilities and actions.
  • Anticipate safety hazards, lead safety incident review meetings, and ensure safety documentation is maintained.
  • Anticipate project owner/client questions and navigate difficult conversations regarding costs, quality, or schedules.
  • Prepare various reports (monthly status updates, analysis, schedules, billings, and status reports) to manage projects and communicate with stakeholders and management.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the achievement of the position’s and team’s objectives.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant construction management experience in the industrial arena.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of profit and loss responsibility on multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Project, Word), PDF, estimating, and document programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
  • High level of emotional intelligence, building relationships with multiple personality types.
  • Proven experience with contracting methods such as lump sum, GMP, cost‑plus construction management, and fee‑based construction.
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and related reports and records.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record per Fortis policy.
Physical Requirements

Work is performed on an active construction site and requires standing or walking for long periods. Utilization of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers is required. Communication with internal and external contacts, including speaking and hearing, is necessary. May occasionally move equipment up to 50 lbs.

Travel Requirements

All Fortis positions require some level of driving.
