Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU Float position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated academic medical center, requiring Epic proficiency and comfort floating across all PCU and MS units.

Details
  • Float position covering all PCU and Medical-Surgical units within a large acute care teaching hospital
  • Level I Trauma Center (Adult & Pediatrics) with Magnet designation for nursing excellence
  • Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • PCU patient ratio averages 5:1; MS patient ratio averages 6:1, with potential flex up to 7:1
  • Staffing needs are re-evaluated every 4 hours, meaning travelers may float 2–3 times per shift
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
  • One holiday shift required per 13-week contract
  • Epic EMR experience required
Requirements
  • Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum experience in telemetry and stepdown-level care (PCU, DOU, or IMC)
  • Proficient in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and titrating cardiac drips
  • Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
  • Experience with central line care, trach management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP/BiPAP) required
  • Experience managing chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac) required
  • Ability to manage PCA and heparin protocols, administer IV insulin, and handle endocrine/metabolic conditions
  • Cardiovascular experience in pre/post cardiac cath settings preferred
  • Competency responding to emergencies via Rapid Response and Code teams
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Valid driver's license and Social Security card required for consideration
