Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented PCB Hand Solder Technician to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for performing precision hand soldering, rework, repair, and assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs) while ensuring compliance with IPC workmanship standards and customer specifications. The ideal candidate has excellent manual dexterity, strong attention to detail, and experience working in a high-volume electronics manufacturing environment.

Requirements

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Perform precision hand soldering of surface mount (SMT) and through-hole electronic components on printed circuit boards.
  • Perform rework, repair, modification, and touch-up of PCB assemblies to meet IPC and customer quality standards.
  • Read and interpret assembly drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), work instructions, engineering drawings, and assembly documentation.
  • Inspect older joints and completed assemblies for workmanship, defects, missing components, polarity, and proper placement.
  • Identify and report quality issues, non-conforming materials, or production concerns to supervisors.
  • Operate soldering stations, hot air rework equipment, desoldering tools, microscopes, and other hand tools safely and effectively.
  • Maintain ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) compliance while handling electronic components and assemblies.
  • Ensure all work meets IPC-A-610 workmanship standards and customer specifications.
  • Work on multiple production jobs while maintaining quality and meeting production schedules.
  • Accurately complete production documentation and maintain traceability records.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S workplace organization.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience in PCB assembly, electronics manufacturing, or hand soldering required.
  • Strong proficiency in both surface mount (SMT) and through-hole soldering techniques.
  • Experience performing PCB rework and repair preferred.
  • Ability to read assembly drawings, work instructions, schematics, and Bills of Materials.
  • Familiarity with electronic components and component identification.
  • Knowledge of ESD handling procedures and electronics manufacturing best practices.
  • IPC-A-610 and/or J-STD-001 Certification preferred (current experience or previous certification is a plus).
  • Experience using microscopes, soldering stations, hot air rework stations, tweezers, and precision hand tools.
  • SMT machine operation experience is a plus.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to troubleshoot soldering defects and perform quality repairs.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Must successfully complete a practical through-hole and surface mount soldering assessment during the interview process.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Frequently use hands and fingers for repetitive fine motor tasks.
  • Ability to distinguish small electronic components and inspect solder joints, with or without magnification.
  • Ability to work under microscopes and with precision equipment for extended periods.
