Job Description:

The Patient Care Associate (PCA) is a member of the patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities.

The PCA is assigned to work under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based upon patient needs and PCA skills and abilities. Typical duties include, but are not limited to such things as patient care needs, transporting patients, specimens and/or supplies.

The PCA will report all deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.

1. High school diploma or GED.

2. Graduation from a school of practical nursing ...OR...

Completion of one of the following:

a.      A Certified PCA/PCT Program

b.      A Certified Nurse Assistant Program or equivalent training.

c.      A Medical Assistant Program.

d.      An EMT program.

e.      A phlebotomy training program.

3. At least 2 years of work experience as a patient care associate / tech (must be inpatient setting)

4. With six (6) months direct patient care experience, preferred.

DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan is one of the nation's largest hospitals specializing in rehabilitation medicine and research. RIM is known for its clinical expertise in spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, amputee, orthopedics and catastrophic injury care. The Institute houses the Center for Spinal Cord Injury Recovery and the Southeastern Michigan Traumatic Brain Injury System (SEMTBIS), one of only 16 federally designated model systems of care for brain injury care and research. RIM also operates 31 outpatient sites throughout southeast Michigan specializing in sports medicine and orthopedics.
