Job Requirements

Under limited supervision, performs moderate to complex maintenance tasks, troubleshoots and repairsย 

computer systems and peripheral equipment located throughout the organization. Maintains a spare partsย 

inventory of systems, subsystems, and component parts used in repair work. Updates progress reports forย 

all work performed. Receives work direction from supervisor on work priorities and daily assignments.ย Assists Senior PC Maintenance Technician.ย 

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed byย 

people assigned to this classification.ย These are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job dutiesย 

performed by personnel so classified.ย 

  • Independently installs or relocates computer equipment, such as PCs, thin client terminals,ย 
  • printers, and other associated hardware at user locations ensuring access to electricity, network inย 
  • accordance with departmental procedures, technical, operating and assembling manuals.ย Providesย 
  • first level problem analysis. Masters base knowledge of assigned applications, hardware andย 
  • network to support clinical and business environments. Resolves or escalates service requestsย 
  • when necessary. Independently performs technical downloads and PC configurations.ย 
  • Uses Helpdesk Call Tracking application to log all service and update requests accurately and wellย 
  • detailed.ย Collects data from customers to aid problem determination/resolution of request.ย ย 
  • Provides information to the Helpdesk for on-going follow up to customers until resolution ofย 
  • issue.ย 
  • Assists customers to identify and specify the nature of the request or problem, may identify moreย 
  • complex issues. Troubleshoots moderately complex issues and assists customers with variousย 
  • systems issues including Microsoft, Novell, PC/Laptop/Mobile, printer, software, hardware, andย 
  • network connectivity issues.ย 
  • Provides advanced IT Tiered support teams by obtaining and providing appropriate informationย 
  • for escalated issues.ย 
  • Maintains an inventory of parts used and needed to re-order, including testing parts received forย 
  • stock to ensure an effective level of service.ย Maintains an inventory for all equipment installedย 
  • and oversees or performs documentation of all system configurations in a database as directed.ย ย 
  • Coordinates activities, times, schedules, with suppliers and contractors in regard to the installation,ย 
  • operation, maintenance and evaluation of user locations for data equipment ensuring problems areย 
  • addressed appropriately and timely with UMMS standards and procedures.ย 
  • Collects and analyzes real-time trending information.ย 

Work Experience

Education and Experienceย 

High School Diploma or equivalent GED is required.ย An Associate's degree or certification inย 

Computer Science, Maintenance, Telecommunications, Certified Network Engineer or a relatedย 

field is preferred.ย ย 

Two years experience with desk top equipment, performing installations, configurations, troubleย 

shooting, and evaluations.ย 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of PCs, terminals, and printer hardware and software configurations, Microsoftย

  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic installations is required.ย ย

Working Conditions

  • Work may include regular travel to and from the various affiliated institutions within the Medicalย

  • Work may be required in a Healthcare facility which the observance of "Universal Precautions" isย 
  • mandated.ย Universal Precautions involves the wearing of protective clothing/equipment and theย 
  • observance of safe work practice.ย 
  • There is potential for regular exposure to hazardous materials and hazards from use of tools andย
