Job description

The Educational Communications Board (ECB) offers a professional yet relaxed environment, extensive training, great colleagues, and some really cool technology!

ECB is the state agency that delivers educational, noncommercial, and public safety media via Wisconsin Public Radio and PBS Wisconsin. We are seeking a Master Control Operator.

The normal work schedule for this position will be four 10-hour days per week, Wednesday through Saturday, from 5:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. (An alternate schedule of Tuesday through Saturday, 5:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., if preferred by the candidate, would be available.)

Position Summary

This position is charged with acquisition, preparation, playout and monitoring of public television content that enriches and entertains viewers across Wisconsin. Based at ECB’s headquarters in Madison and operating under limited supervision of the Operations Center Director, this position will progress from basic to complex skill proficiency in all three functional areas of operations tasks: Master Control, Media Prep and Transmission Control. The incumbent will participate in training, process development, and refinement exercises as required. The incumbent will serve as a consultant to internal and cross-departmental clients.

This classification is assigned to pay schedule-range 06-14. The hourly rate for the Master Control Operator (Electronics Tech Media – Intermediate) position is $ 29.15/ per hour plus excellent benefits.

For current and eligible former State employees, compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period may be required.

This position requires a variable, non-traditional work schedule including early mornings and weekends.

Due to the nature of the position, ECB will conduct background checks on applicants prior to selection. ECB does not sponsor work visas and is not an eligible OPT (Optional Practical Training) employer for F-1 international students. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States, and to complete the required employment eligibility form.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with electronic systems and media in a professional setting (e.g., TV or radio broadcasting, video production).
  • Experience working with broadcast Master Control operations.
