Pharmacy Consulting Analyst - Job Description
Position Summary
The Pharmacy Consulting Analyst is responsible for supporting employer clients in optimizing pharmacy benefit programs through a combination of strategic analytics, PBM procurement, and operational execution. This role contributes to PBM RFP development, vendor evaluation, and negotiation activities while leveraging pharmacy claims data to identify cost drivers, trends, and savings opportunities. The position blends hands-on analytical work with cross-functional collaboration, supporting both strategic decision-making and day-to-day operational needs within a fast-paced consulting environment.
Key Responsibilities
Functional Leadership & Ownership
• Support PBM RFP processes including preparation, distribution, evaluation, and recommendation development.
• Contribute to vendor negotiations, including pricing, rebate structures, and contract terms.
• Act as a subject matter resource on PBM pricing models, formulary strategies, and specialty drug management.
Hands-On Execution & Delivery
• Analyze pharmacy claims data to identify utilization trends, cost drivers, and savings opportunities.
• Develop financial models evaluating plan design changes and procurement strategies.
• Create client-ready deliverables including reports, summaries, and presentations.
Reporting, Quality & Operational Support
• Compile and maintain reporting on claims experience, high-cost medications, and spend trends.
• Ensure accuracy and quality of data outputs and client deliverables.
• Support documentation, billing processes, audit readiness, and internal reporting needs.
Cross-Functional Partnership & Integration
• Coordinate data exchanges between PBMs, clients, and internal teams.
• Support consulting teams with materials for client meetings and strategy sessions.
• Facilitate issue resolution and ensure alignment across stakeholders.
Growth, Change & Special Initiatives
• Participate in strategic initiatives including PBM transitions, implementations, and optimization efforts.
• Support project coordination activities such as scheduling, timeline tracking, and deliverable management.
Process Improvement & Best Practices
• Identify opportunities to improve analytics, reporting processes, and workflows.
• Monitor industry trends and recommend enhancements based on market developments.
Center of Excellence (COE) Contribution
• Contribute to development of standardized tools, models, and best practices within pharmacy consulting.
• Support documentation and repeatable processes to enhance scalability and consistency.
Accountability
• Deliver accurate, actionable insights that support client decision-making.
• Maintain quality, compliance, and data integrity across all outputs.
• Ensure timely execution of project deliverables and client commitments.

Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Economics, or related field.
• 3+ years of experience in pharmacy benefits, PBM consulting, analytics, or related area.
• Strong understanding of PBM pricing, rebates, formulary management, and specialty drug strategies.
• Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.

Compensation
