Description
The Payroll Department at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Payroll Specialist position.
Examples of Duties
  • Responsible for processing and verifying the accuracy of payroll data.
  • Review and update payroll records by data entry of payroll authorizations and changes to employee records.
  • Serve as the liaison for the Office of Payroll/SEC in conjunction with Financial Aid, Human Resources, and other related departments regarding student, biweekly, staff, and faculty labor.
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and written.
  • Maintain payroll records by adhering to federal and state governmental regulations.
  • Maintain payroll operations by adhering to the University's policies and procedures and reporting.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee records and data.
  • Process monthly vendor payments of garnishments and benefits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of experience in payroll, accounting, or human resources.
  • Must be detail-oriented and have excellent time management skills.
  • Must have knowledge of federal and state regulations.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally, and in writing, and maintain good working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and external contacts.
