Job description

We are a growing CPA firm seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support our client accounting and tax services practice. This role is ideal for someone with strong bookkeeping and payroll experience who enjoys working with multiple clients and collaborating with a professional accounting team. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for bookkeeping, payroll processing, accounting systems setup and support, client communication, and assisting with tax compliance services for small to mid-sized businesses and individuals.
Responsibilities:
Client Bookkeeping & Accounting
  • Maintain accurate books for multiple clients, including general ledger maintenance, bank and credit card reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements
  • Review client records for accuracy, compliance, and consistency
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Payroll & Payroll Tax Services
  • Prepare and file payroll tax reports (Forms 941, 940, state filings, W-2s, and 1099s)
  • Monitor payroll tax notices and assist with agency correspondence
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations

Tax Services Support
  • Assist with that preparation of individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns
  • Organize client tax documents and supporting schedules
  • Assist with tax compliance projects
  • Assist with sales tax and other state and local tax filings as needed

Accounting Software Setup & Client Assistance
  • Set up, convert, and customize client accounting systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve client bookkeeping and software issues
  • Perform diagnostic reviews and cleanup of existing accounting files
  • Provide basic software training and guidance to clients

Client & Team Collaboration
  • Communicate directly with clients to gather information, answer questions, and communicate both tax and financial statement results
  • Provide professional and timely responses to client inquiries
  • Work closely with senior accountants, managers, and partners on engagements
  • Adhere to firm deadlines, quality standards, and documentation requirements
  • Work closely with the administrative support team to provide backup when necessary

Requirements
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field
  • Two or more years of bookkeeping or public accounting experience
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and/or QuickBooks Desktop
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple client engagements and deadlines
