Job description

GLOBAL SUPPLY MANAGER, CAPITAL EQUIPMENT, SEMICONDUCTOR (STARLINK) 

SpaceX is the market leader in various product categories like human spaceflight, rapid vehicle reusability, and satellite-based internet services. We are investing heavily in even more product categories with ambitious plans to dominate those markets as well. The SpaceX Supply Chain Department is critical to these plans. The functions within the department include procurement, planning and fulfillment, supplier development and quality, logistics and inventory. SpaceX Supply Chain will play a key role in enabling SpaceX to meet these ambitious growth targets and to make humanity a multi-planetary species.This individual will support a major semiconductor manufacturing initiative through the management and execution of capital equipment purchases.  

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Work directly with key internal stakeholders to develop/implement sourcing and cost management strategies; supporting capital purchases and production consumables
  • Understand the technical aspects of production equipment to identify opportunities for cost, space, and process optimization
  • Use data analytics to identify and bring to fruition process-related opportunities 
  • Utilize negotiations to maximize value and ensure project timeline adherence while minimizing risk 
  • Build and own overall project budgets, compile funding requests, and generate capital plans, based on project timeline; including ownership of Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for the categories managed 
  • Conduct research, perform benchmarking, and gather market analysis for assigned categories 
  • Communicate regularly to leadership on topics including overall equipment status, schedules, risks, and mitigation actions; while responding quickly to changes in the overall goals, schedule, and/or architecture 
  • Track and report projected and actual spend, assess budgetary risk, and provide clear budgetary analysis to enable timely decision making 
  • Create sourcing strategies to reduce risk, enable continuous cost reduction, and align with company strategy on payment terms, cash targets, on-time delivery, and cost savings 
  • Build genuine relationships both internally and externally and drive cross-functional teams to achieve consensus 
  • Source, onboard, and develop new suppliers to accommodate rapidly evolving business needs 
  • Work with supply base to ensure support from vendors regarding setup, installation, repairs, and maintenance 
  • Execute purchase orders and manage escalation process for "purchase to pay" issues 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Advanced degree and 5+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; or bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience working in one or more of the following; or 11+ years of experience working in one or more of the following: 
    • Engineering 
    • Purchasing 
    • Contract negotiation 
    • Material or production planning 
    • Operations or supply chain management 
    • Material cost control 
    • Master production scheduling 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Strong technical background to speak the language of engineers and strong business background to deal with contracts and negotiations
  • Experience with purchasing for more than one category 
  • Extensive project management and organizational skills 
  • Experience managing large scale capital projects 
  • Remarkable problem solving skills with a bias for speed 
  • Quick learner and ability to prioritize appropriately to meet customer and company needs 
  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • Effective written, verbal, and presentation communication skills 
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills 
  • Strong technical knowledge of MS Office Suite 
  • Ability to conduct all activities with the highest degree of integrity

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to travel and communicate outside of work hours - up to 25% travel may be required (including international travel)
  • Willingness to work long hours and weekend when needed to meet critical deadlines 
  • This position is based in Bastrop, TX and requires being onsite - remote work not considered
