What does it mean to be paid under the table?

Being paid 'under the table' refers to receiving wages in cash or other forms without official documentation or taxes being withheld. While it may seem appealing to receive more money upfront, it can lead to serious legal consequences, lack of worker protections, and ineligibility for benefits like unemployment or workers' compensation. It's important to understand the risks and legal implications before accepting under-the-table payment.
