AC Paving Superintendent/Foreman - Paving Division
General Summary: Western Engineering Contractors Inc. is seeking a qualified Paving Foreman/Superintendent for our Paving Division for full-time employment. Western Engineering is a local contractor that is based in Loomis and performs work in the greater Sacramento area and surrounding foothills. Western Engineering is a reputable company that has been rooted in the industry for over 40 years. Essential Functions:
• Study specifications and plan procedures to determine timing, staffing requirements, and equipment/tools needed for the project.
• Consult with Estimators on bids.
• Review contracts and purchase orders.
• Consult with Project Managers on cost-to-complete estimates, billing support documentation, and schedules as needed.
• Visit job sites regularly to effectively direct, coordinate, and support foremen and crews in the division.
• Ensure foremen understand and operate within the project budget.
• Inform Project Managers of any changes occurring in the field.
• Inspect work in progress to ensure quality and conformity to plans.
• Work safely and maintain a safe workplace in compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
• Ensure compliance with submittals, client schedules, and proper scheduling of WEC vendors.
• Provide technical expertise and make decisions that protect and benefit both the company and the customer.
• Review and approve vendor and subcontractor invoices prior to payment.
• Ensure field teams process Daily Extra Work Reports (DEWRs) in a timely manner.
• Participate in the overall management and planning activities of the company.
• Maintain regular client contact and document significant verbal communications.
• Attend bi-weekly scheduling meetings, departmental meetings, and weekly foremen's or project meetings at job sites as needed.
• Interact effectively and professionally with other employees and customers.
Desired Knowledge and/or Skills:
• Experienced in blueprint reading, elementary surveying, construction methods, and supervision
• Provides full support to foremen
• Effective communicator in English
• Strong planning, training, and motivational skills
• Ability to monitor financial performance and manage change
• Knowledgeable in construction equipment
• Familiar with local site conditions, agency standards, local vendors, and subcontractors
• Knowledge of OSHA and other safety regulations
• Understanding of specific agency specifications and requirements in area of expertise
• Aware of employee certification requirements in area of expertise
• Has run and supervised an asphalt paving crew with the use of transfer and super dumps
• Mainline paving with bottom dumps a plus
Education Requirements: High school diploma. BA degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred.
Experience Requirements: Ten (10) or more years of construction experience encompassing grading and asphalt paving. Five (5) or more years of construction supervision experience.
