Job description

US:NV:Carson City Monitor Techs
Per Diem Variable Shift
Summary
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager and supervision of the Charge Nurse, continuously monitors the heart rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormal pattern variances. Able to perform a variety of clerical duties associated with patient care unit operations.
Qualifications
Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers within 90 days of employment
  • Completion of Hospital Specific Training regarding sitter and patient care duties within 30 days of hire
Essential Functions
  • Reviews patient information to assess and interpret heart rhythm pattern, current pattern and prior variances, including all other vital signs; e.g. B/P, SP02, Resp., etc.
  • Observes the cardiac monitor, as well as listens for and validates alarms to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm.
  • Immediately reports alarms and/or variances to the assigned staff nurse to initiate examination of patient.
  • Analyses and documents the heart rhythm as per standard, and variances PRN, posting the information on the patient record. This includes upon admission.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
  • Communicates with members of the health care team, patients and visitors using oral and written means and equipment such as the telephone and vocera system.
  • Initiates daily worksheets to provide continuity of care via reporting to the oncoming shift.
  • Maintains an orderly, clean and business-like environment at the workstation and surrounding areas to assist members of the health care team in the performance of their jobs despite high stress factors.
  • Maintains professional competence through formal education, workshops and unit specific education. Maintains currency of educational file. Attends 50% or greater staff meetings, reviews and initials those meeting Minutes not attended. Completes unit mandatory education.
  • Performs specified duties during a hospital wide emergency.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
