The Role:
 
The Apparel Technical Designer will execute the vision, assist in the technical design and line sketching process, and collaborate with product developers, merchandisers, and designers to visualize and conceptualize American Tall collections.  The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of 3D sketching, print, and pattern creation.  
 
Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Product Understanding & Ideation.  Assist in conceptualizing new collections with the merchandising team under the direction of the Design Director and Merchandising Director.  Research style and trend elements, under the guidance of the Design Director.
  • CAD Creation for New Product Assortments.  Create and update detailed CADs for upcoming collections to ensure accurate communication of design intent, in all colours and print/pattern options.  Update CADS throughout the design and PD journey and represent the current version of the style, amidst modifications and/or style changes.
  • Print, Pattern, and AOP execution.  Create digital prints, patterns, and AOPs under the precise guidance of the design director and merchandising team.
  • Collection Overview Boards (Physical & Digital).  Create, organize, update, and follow-up on style and collection overview boards, both physically and digitally, for internal presentations and team reviews.
  • Other Departmental Collection Documentation.  Create documents or style guides, both physically and digitally, for internal presentations and team reviews, in direct collaboration with the merchandising team.
  • Sample Fittings.   Follow the flow of samples through market fitting to development fitting, all the way to size set fitting, record any changes made to the styles and represent them in our overview boards, both physically and digitally, in direct collaboration with the Technical Development Manager, Design Director, and PD Team. 
Experience, Education and Designations
  • College or Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in technical design, preferably in a specialty-size market.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes
  • Strong understanding of garment construction, pattern making, and fit.
  • Experience incorporating AI frameworks or tools into the design process
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
