What is a pattern designer?

A Pattern Designer creates templates or designs used for manufacturing textiles, clothing, or other patterned products. They work with software or manual drafting techniques to develop precise patterns that ensure proper fit and aesthetics. Pattern Designers collaborate with fashion designers, product developers, and manufacturers to refine designs. Their role requires technical skills in pattern-making, material knowledge, and attention to detail to achieve the desired look and function.

What are the typical responsibilities of a pattern designer?

Pattern Designers are responsible for creating, modifying, and testing patterns for garments or textiles, either by hand or using CAD software. Their daily tasks often include meeting with designers or product managers to discuss concepts, converting sketches into precise patterns, and collaborating with sample makers to ensure fit and quality. They may also assess pre-production samples and make necessary adjustments to improve manufacturability. Working with various departments, including production, design, and quality assurance, is common to ensure seamless workflow from concept to finished product. This collaborative environment enables Pattern Designers to contribute directly to the success of new fashion lines or textile products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the pattern designer position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Pattern Designer, you need a strong background in textile or fashion design, a keen eye for detail, and knowledge of fabric properties, often supported by a relevant degree or diploma. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software like Adobe Illustrator, AutoCAD, or specialized pattern-making programs is commonly required. Job description

Company Overview
Every firm has a culture - the values, beliefs, methodology, attitudes and standards that reflect an organization's DNA. But the truly inspiring firms - the game-changers, the industry leaders and the disruptors - have cultures that propel them to innovate and stand out. At Brown Advisory, we aim to be one of those inspired firms. Over the years, we have purposefully built and nurtured our client-first culture.
Brown Advisory is an independent investment management and strategic advisory firm committed to delivering a combination of first-class performance, strategic advice and the highest level of client service. The firm's clients-including individuals, families, family offices, endowments, foundations, charities, institutions, consultants, and financial intermediaries-are served by over 1,000 colleagues worldwide, all of whom are equity owners of the firm.
Position Summary:
The Lead Integration Engineer is a hands-on engineering role responsible for designing and building system-to-system integrations, APIs, data pipelines, and vendor platform connectivity solutions. The role focuses on API strategy, microservice architecture, middleware patterns, data integration, and scalable service design that support Wealth and Asset Management and portfolio management, e.g. Addepar, client platforms, advisory tools, financial operations, and reporting workflows. The Lead Integration Engineer partners with business, technology, data, security, compliance, and vendor teams to translate firm strategy into system designs, integration specifications, implementation plans and production solutions.
This role will provide engineering leadership for integrations involving Canoe, Snowflake, Addepar, portfolio and client reporting platforms and related enterprise services. The position requires strong experience in highly regulated financial services environments, practical knowledge of asset management operating models, and the ability to design secure, resilient, observable, and maintainable platforms that support business transformation, automation, analytics, and operational efficiency. This role is expected to own both technical design and hands-on implementation. Successful candidates should enjoy solving engineering problems and contributing directly to production solutions.
The primary duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy integration patterns for Canoe, Snowflake, Addepar, portfolio management platforms, client advisory tools, reporting platforms, accounting and finance systems, and external vendor ecosystems.
  • Partner with product owners, business stakeholders, engineers, data teams, security, infrastructure, and vendors to translate business strategy into practical technology delivery roadmaps.
  • Establish technical standards for API design, service decomposition, data contracts, authentication, authorization, monitoring, logging, resiliency, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead an engineering workstream through system design, enhancements, integration delivery, testing, release planning, and production support transition.
  • Support and enhance systems in a highly regulated financial environment, including controls for data quality, privacy, security, auditability, and operational resilience.
  • Provide technical leadership for integrations that automate alternative investment document collection, data extraction, data normalization, downstream reporting, and operational workflows.
  • Advance Snowflake-centered data integration patterns, including secure data ingestion, transformation, sharing, consumption, governance, and integration with analytics and reporting platforms.
  • Lead technical design reviews, technical risk assessments, vendor design reviews, proof-of-concept evaluations, implementation sequencing, and change-management activities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial, operational, data, security, and regulatory standards, including SOX, AML/KYC, SEC/FINRA expectations where relevant to platform scope.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; equivalent practical experience may be considered.
  • 10+ years of software engineering, integration engineering, application development or hands-on solution design experience supporting financial systems and wealth or asset management platforms.
  • 5+ years of experience in wealth management, asset management, investment operations, portfolio management, or adjacent financial services environments.
  • 5+ years of technical leadership experience leading architects, engineers, analysts, delivery teams, or cross-functional technical workstreams.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience designing and delivering API integrations, microservices, middleware solutions, data services, and integration patterns.
  • Experience translating business strategy, operating model needs, and regulatory requirements into scalable integration solutions and production-ready implementations.
  • Experience supporting enterprise platforms in a production environment, including release planning, regression testing, incident response, operational support, and vendor coordination.
  • Working knowledge of asset management workflows, including portfolio data, client reporting, trading or investment operations, performance analytics, alternative investments, and financial reporting.
  • Experience working with data platforms, data warehouses, SQL, data modeling concepts, data quality controls, and system-to-system data flows.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, organizational, stakeholder management, and team development skills.
  • Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, competing deadlines, and high expectations for quality and reliability.
  • Ability to work in a Brown Advisory's office three days per week. Baltimore location strongly preferred

Desired Qualifications:
  • Deep expertise in application development, integration design, integration engineering, and secure service design.
  • Hands-on experience with Canoe or comparable alternative investment document automation, data extraction, and data management platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including ingestion patterns, data sharing, warehouse design, governance, security, and integration with analytics or reporting tools.
  • Experience with portfolio management systems, client advisory tools, client portals, trading systems, performance analytics, portfolio accounting, and client reporting platforms.
  • Knowledge of GL structures, portfolio accounting, investment data domains, financial reporting, reconciliation, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure, containerization, serverless patterns, API gateways, service meshes, orchestration, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience with REST, GraphQL, message queues, event streaming, ETL/ELT, file-based integrations, webhooks, batch processing, and third-party platform APIs.
  • Familiarity with AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, robotic process automation, document intelligence, and intelligent workflow automation.
  • Intermediate to advanced SQL knowledge and experience using data analysis to validate integration quality, troubleshoot production issues, and support business decision-making.
  • Experience with Agile delivery methods, architecture review boards, change-management processes, SDLC controls, and vendor management.
  • Experience designing systems with observability, resiliency, disaster recovery, secure secrets management, role-based access, and data lineage considerations.
