Job Description:

McDermott, Will & Schulte LLP is building one of the most ambitious AI programs in the legal industry - and great design is central to making it work. We're looking for a UX Designer to serve as the design authority across our AI Solutions Delivery team: advising analysts on UX approaches, setting the quality bar for every user-facing solution we ship, and stepping in to drive design directly when it matters most. This is not a production design role. It's a judgment role - for a designer who can look at an AI-generated interface and immediately know what's right, what's wrong, and exactly how to make it better.

WHY MWS

  • Shape the design language of an entirely new category of legal AI tools - from the ground up

  • Work at the intersection ofcutting-edgeAI and one of the world's leading law firms

  • High-impact advisory role - your design judgment directly influences every solution the team ships

  • Remote-first, collaborative team that moves fast and values craft

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Serve as the UX authority for the AI Solutions Delivery team - advising analysts on design approach, interaction patterns, and user experience strategy for every solution they build

  • Review AI-generated UIs produced viaAI-assisted development platforms, providing precise, actionable design direction to iterate toward production quality

  • Drive UI design directly for high-visibility or complex solutions, taking ownership from concept through delivery

  • Establish and maintain UX standards and design patterns across the firm's growing library of AI-powered tools

  • Conduct lightweight user research and stakeholder feedback sessions tovalidatedesign decisions with attorneys and operational teams

  • Champion accessibility, consistency, and usability across all solutions - ensuring AI tools are intuitive for legal professionals, not just technically functional

  • Stay ahead of evolving AI interface patterns, conversational UX, and agentic workflow design - bringing emerging best practices to the team

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 3+ yearsof UX or product design experience, with a portfolio of shipped digital products

  • Strong designjudgment- the ability to evaluate any interface, articulate exactlywhat'sworking and whatisn't, and direct iterative improvement with precision

  • AI fluency- you use AI tools regularly, understand their output, and can direct AI-assisted design workflows rather than being dependent on traditional design tooling

  • Experience designing forcomplex workflows- multi-step processes, data-dense interfaces, or tools used by professional or expert users

  • Excellent communication and advisory skills - you can explain a design decision to a non-designer stakeholder as confidently as to a developer

  • Solid grasp of accessibility standards, responsive design, and web UI fundamentals

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, HCI, Computer Science, or equivalent demonstrated experience

Preferred

  • Experience designingconversational interfaces, AI agents, or prompt-driven workflows

  • Familiarity withAI-assisted development and design tools, including code-generating and UI-generating platforms

  • Exposure to legal, financial, or other professional services environments

  • Experience contributing to orestablishingadesign systemin a fast-moving organization

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

We are tool-agnostic. Whether youreach forFigma, an AI-assisted development platform, a whiteboard, or a live prototype depends entirely on what the situation calls for. What we care about is design judgment - the ability to make the right call, explain it clearly, and raise the bar on everything the team ships.

Successful candidates will be provided with outstanding career opportunities and will receive a competitive total rewards package with the opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses.
