Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Youth Services Manager, the Youth Services Associate is integral to providing reference, readers advisory, and technology support services to library patrons, as well as program support for the Youth Department.

Primary Responsibilities

Deliver consistent, friendly, and professional customer service.

Provide reference and reader's advisory services. 

Create displays, bibliographies, flannel boards, posters, and bookmarks.

Assist patrons with self-service resources, including photocopiers, printers, computers, software applications, databases, online registration, and other services designed for youth and caregivers.

Aid patrons with basic troubleshooting of common software products, operating systems, browsers, and other technologies associated with library services including handheld devices, e-readers, laptops, and tablets.

Assists with programming as needed.

Prepare one to two dramatic play themes per year.

Assist with middle school volunteers.

Participate in library-related training and in-services.

Perform other assigned duties and tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications 

Bachelor's degree in any major from an accredited college or university preferred.

A minimum of 2 years' relevant experience working with children and their caregivers.

Previous customer service, library, and technology experience preferred.

Ability to effectively provide readers' advisory and reference services.

Proficient technology skills.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

Knowledge of authors, literature, and materials catering to youth preferred.

Familiarity with library programs & services for youth preferred.

Physical Requirements

The employee must frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach with hands and arms, kneel, or get down on the floor, and climb stools. 

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a typical library environment. 

Part-time position requiring regular day, evening, and weekend hours.

Salary

$19.30 - $26.11 per hour

Schedule

Part-Time, 18 hours/week including day, evening, and weekend hours
